in no way religious wat so ever but do believe in a supreme architect

think u would have to be stupid not to because if everything always starts from something then the question is, who or what did it

no science in the world can answer that

God makes sense cuz the world makes sense. If you don't belive, not like it matters, you basically beleive in random meaninglessness and chaos...see satan in other words. You'd deny till the end that people have know basic knowledge of anything like life after death without science or some other modern excuse and dogma. I don't mean to argue semantics cuz their are atheist religions in the world that make plenty of sense but the point is uniity of life and meaning, purpose of your life and reality. That's God. that's what God is.

    • humans LOVE to give meaning to things. stop glorifying us.

    Einstein On Religion

"LONDON (AFP) - Albert Einstein described belief in God as "childish superstition" and said Jews were not the chosen people, in a letter to be sold in London this week, an auctioneer said Tuesday.

The father of relativity, whose previously known views on religion have been more ambivalent and fuelled much discussion, made the comments in response to a philosopher in 1954.

As a Jew himself, Einstein said he had a great affinity with Jewish people but said they "have no different quality for me than all other people".

"The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish.

"No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this," he wrote in the letter written on January 3, 1954 to the philosopher Eric Gutkind, cited by The Guardian newspaper.

The German-language letter is being sold Thursday by Bloomsbury Auctions in Mayfair after being in a private collection for more than 50 years, said the auction house's managing director Rupert Powell.

In it, the renowned scientist, who declined an invitation to become Israel's second president, rejected the idea that the Jews are God's chosen people.

"For me the Jewish religion like all others is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions," he said.

"And the Jewish people to whom I gladly belong and with whose mentality I have a deep affinity have no different quality for me than all other people."

And he added: "As far as my experience goes, they are no better than other human groups, although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power. Otherwise I cannot see anything 'chosen' about them."

Previously the great scientist's comments on religion -- such as "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind" -- have been the subject of much debate, used notably to back up arguments in favour of faith.

Powell said the letter being sold this week gave a clear reflection of Einstein's real thoughts on the subject. "He's fairly unequivocal as to what he's saying. There's no beating about the bush," he told AFP."

science has nothing to say about God, it can't. God is like a personal understanding a concious explanation of reality science needs rigor and math, science wouldd never prove that little Ms Missy ate lunch and felt happy on saturday afternoon and saw a birdy. God could though. dig?

who made God up? some random caveman with a good idea? nope, the entire idea is a huge factor in history, its inherant to the world we understand, athiesm is dependant on the idea of God. the real idea of God, but its ego that segregates men from natural existance and God.

I get lost in my surroundings and come to the realization that there are far too many things that are beautiful and so well-organized in our natural world - from the cycles that give us day and night... to the diff. seasons the globe has... the way plants germinate and grow / repeat the cycle... then there's multitudes of species on this planet that have so many unique attributes that seem to be 'theirs' and 'theirs alone'...

Then I think about this whole idea of procreating... specifically the human 'loving' side - a man and a woman who for some reason have become so tightly bonded and in fact 'in love'. That chemical, physical and spiritual reaction/connection between too people is far too beautiful to just be 'by chance' / 'natural order' of things... because those two bodies can then come together and CREATE another human... usually involving the most sought-after pleasure of mankind to get that process going (sex)...

... how does one little sperm know to swim it's way through a woman's body and then to join with her egg?

As humans we marvel at ourselves and how wonderful our pop culture is and how great our scientific achievements and understanding of how things work is... but we still can't explain WHY the sperm travels and joins with the egg... all we've uncovered is that it does happen and we seem to take it for granted by referring to it as a 'natural process'...

...this is just one of many 'natural order' occurrences in life that tell me this all couldn't just be natural selection / survival of the fittest all stemming from some mass explosion...

That's just taking a tiny look at 'creation' and 'order'...

"God makes sense cuz the world makes sense. If you don't belive, not like it matters, you basically beleive in random meaninglessness and chaos"

This is the mistake I see religious people making. They think the world needs to make sense to humans. The world doesn't give a shit about making sense to you or me.

    • but it does make sense to humans. it obvious the world works and we know things about it.KwesiJ

my intuition of God probably wouldn't be recognized by a large percentage of "religious" people, especially zealots and fundamentalists (who seem intent on destroying God)

  • detritus0

Aye, Rand - I often wonder what "most people's" general conception of God actually is. I could just about wrap my head around their decision to Believe if it was in something utterly abstract, sublime and infinite - but I get the impression a lot of people think It's some bearded, sandal-clad dude dicking-around in the clouds with a gaggle of harp-plucking fairies.
