I don't believe in a god, but i respect the ones who do.
About organised religion, as long is doesn't go to extreme its okay,
but its funny to see how hardline atheists basicly have the same
views has extreme religious people, very dogmatic and
black and white viewpoints. 'god is dead', 'religion is a disease', etc...

I don't believe in anything, God falls under the category.

Atheism is the new fundamentalism. Whoa lookout- some 9th graders in rural Texas are about to say a prayer before their football game- KILL THEM NOW!!!
- YES, LETS KILL THEM.Jnr_Madison
- This pretty much makes the most sense out of all the comments I've read here.dog_opus

Do you think god whispers 'timeline' to himself every time someone prays?

if I had to pick a religion I'd go for either the ancient greeks or nordic religions.

fuck it, make your own up. Come up with a series of unprovable concepts and claim that you believe these despite any evidence and expect everybody else to work around it and give you tax dollars for the privilege then cry discrimination when people question you.

How lame is that?

It's too bad that these discussions often turn into something akin to the big kids mocking the little kids for believing in Santa.
If we as non-believers were able to extend the same respect to religious types that we, ourselves want (mainly, the ability to freely believe what you want), maybe we'd see some extended back to us. It happens already on a small scale.
The ultimate irony is that the precept of self-reliance, one most non-believers adhere to, is virtually ignored when someone else belittles our decision to not believe. If you really want to be self-reliant, how about not giving a shit when someone says you're going to hell. Don't get me wrong, i'm guilty of this myself

I'm a "believer"- not of Santa Claus actually, but of God. I'd like to think I'm as self-reliant and critical as any heathen, ha, and yeah I'd get pissed off if some misguided Christian told me I'm going to hell- which I don't believe in anyway. So I gotta ask, who are these fundamentalist boogiemen that seem to haunt all you poor QBN atheists?? I live in SF but I grew up in the midwest, where organized, traditional religious organizations are more prevalent. Still, I never felt as persecuted as you guys make out to be. Did you all get beaten by big bad wooden rulers in Catholic school or something?!
- Most of it is perceived, rather than actual persecution. And often that perception is inflated.locustsloth
- In my case, personally, that is.locustsloth
