+1 on Seagate. Western Digitals are decent too.
- Jaline0
Seagate, then WD. Seagate usually has a 3-5 year warranty, and WD has 1-3 years.

A friend of mine just had a lacie crap out on him with all his backup on it. I've got a seagate and its been no problem at all, but gonna invest in a new one soon cos it's filling up. I know the WD are also good but any others that people would recommend, maxtor or other?
- digdre0
i have a laCie, never had a problem with it, but now it's full

Lacie = maxtor = say bye to your disk after 2 years
(seriously... of all the PC i've assembled in the past years using maxtor disk 85% are gone)Recently got the 1Tb WD My Book. Definitely recommended.
- ian0
Yeah Fariska, was looking at the MyBook, seems like good value. Pixmania are selling them for €156 now. That seems a mental price for 1TB.

i haz iomega 360gb - nice and a new PVM thingie which is whisper quiet ;)
- autoflavour0
avoid western digital like a girl with crabs
- why?Fariska
- i have had 3 drives fail on me in a 10 year period. ALL of them were WD.autoflavour
- I've had the same amount in that time only none broke :/jasontroj
- + 1, it's true.search
- External or internal in an enclosure?jaylarson
- 2 internal, 1 in external caseautoflavour
- external, purchased 5, 3 failed.search
- everyone has a different story for each brand. Just assume any drive will die today with total data loss and plan for that...ribit

nicole_marie, not sure if you use ebayexpress but I recently picked up a Western Digital MyBook 750GB for nearly the same price. I had two Lacies crap out on me and so far the MyBook and also my WD passport 320GB drives have been amazing.
- lackofcolor0
nicole-marie: I have that drive. I've had it for about 6 months works fine. I've also had no problems with lacie. But the drive you are looking at is a sweet deal.

Incase it is buried in the notes, autoflavour, were the WD's external's or internals in enclosures? Also, how recently was this 10 years range?

Anyone have experience with multimedia drives like this one? You can store and run disk images off of it, direct into your tv. I was thinking of one of these for storing movies and music.

I've got about 7 maxtor one touch drives, so far not one issue. Seagate added their 5 yr warranty when they bought'em, too.
I've got a WD portable and Lacie portable, so far both of those are great too.
All luck, imho.
