some people really do have a fucking cheek. i decided a long time ago to stop doing things for free (unless it's for family or close friends), it always seems that the free favours are for the most picky people.

dude by the sounds of it they aren't a potential client that will pay you for work in the future. you have nothing to lose by telling them "pay up or fuck off" (use better terminology here). You have some self-respect to gain and/or some hard cash. The only reason to do it for free is if it's for some charitable org that you really love or they aren't picky and you can design whatever you want.

It's been said a couple times already, but there was a really good line in the new Batman by the Joker "If you're good at something, never do it for free".
I worked for a dude that always wanted me to build sites for his little businesses for $300 - $500 and made it sound like he was doing me a favor for the business. Finally I told him to kick rocks. If he wants a $Freehundred site then do a search on google.
