its a competition to all young designers to promote themselves and have there work on a billboard in the middle of london

rybo - this is for a competition?
do you want an honest crit?
this design ISNT something that will win a competition, it looks completely uninspired and just looks like youve arsed about in illustrator for half an hour (if that!).its clear to see from the first visual where youve taken influence from, the thing is - work from the likes of TDR might look very sparse, but theres something very 'considered' about it.
theres nothing 'considered' about your visuals.

and has anyone worked out why the number are what numbers they are they arnt as random as you probs first thought
- it dont matter, and no one looking at the billboard will have the time to care23kon
- a billboard message is something that you have to "get" either there and then ...23kon
- ... or a minute or so further down the street when your brain clicks it ....23kon
- .. then youl remember it for being clever23kon
- Agree. You need to take the medium into consideration.********

do you know WHERE the billboard will be?
if you do then do something clever relating to the location of the billboard.
if you dont know where its going to be then just do something clever related to it actually being a billboard.i.e Billboards are put there so that you notice them. A funny and ironic thing would be some nice HUGE black helvetica bold type on a luminous pink background with the words "DON'T NOTICE ME" or something like that.
now that kind of thing has the potential to win.
that'll be £500 for that idea btw

give me a link to the competition and i'll enter with my suggestion or something along that kind of concept.
i'd put money on my idea getting to the shortlist!

try and write yourself a brief, where there is a point and a message to get across, and then start from there, at the moment this is just... rather a pointless waste of space.
Alternatively, do something that looks good, as if it took more than 5 minutes.

please note. A=1, B=2, z=26 is not a clever code, no matter what you think. It also ads nothing since you the text below, the random accents again add nothing

dont even bother with the stupid letterforms with the diddles on them
and yes "diddles" is the technical term
(in my head anyway).seriously, based on the concept of thinking ive told you about - ive got the winning design in my head. give me the competition details!

17 pages of sketchbook drawings doesnt mean squat either.
Yeah its fine at art college, your lecturers like you to keep them so they can see your train of thought and crit you.
But clients arent interested in your sketchbooks, especially in this day and age where they expect 'sketches/proofs' to pretty much look like the final thing. Its the industries own fault really thanks to computers being able to produce such plush visuals.
A client is only interested in your train of thought and the FINAL OUTCOME.Ive never ever used sketchbooks for developing ideas and that was definitely my downfall at art college. For my degree show i had all my work done then had to get a load of sketchbooks and work backwards to make it look like id "developed" my final idea from a shitty initial idea hehe.
I usually find that when i read a brief an idea will pop into my head and more often than not , thatl be the route i'll go down in the end - that is unless a client intervenes and would prefer to go down a pants route instead that they think would be better

i like it. don't let the h8ers bring you down.
- whos hating? im advising and i think ive been more helpful than i should be for free!23kon
- id assume the standard of the winner would be pretty high and would be a clever idea ...23kon
- .. that takes into account the media that it is rather than just being some piece of print work23kon
- just kidding. i think it sucksemukid
