17 pages of sketchbook drawings doesnt mean squat either.

Yeah its fine at art college, your lecturers like you to keep them so they can see your train of thought and crit you.

But clients arent interested in your sketchbooks, especially in this day and age where they expect 'sketches/proofs' to pretty much look like the final thing. Its the industries own fault really thanks to computers being able to produce such plush visuals.
A client is only interested in your train of thought and the FINAL OUTCOME.

Ive never ever used sketchbooks for developing ideas and that was definitely my downfall at art college. For my degree show i had all my work done then had to get a load of sketchbooks and work backwards to make it look like id "developed" my final idea from a shitty initial idea hehe.

I usually find that when i read a brief an idea will pop into my head and more often than not , thatl be the route i'll go down in the end - that is unless a client intervenes and would prefer to go down a pants route instead that they think would be better

    • Its a very personal thing and its all about convaying ideas and if u can do that...rybo
    • without a sketchbook its a very admirable thing (y)rybo
