Akira Project - Live Action Trailer
- this id love to see!!e-pill
- I concur - great job.antimotion
- that was fucking awesome... hollywood won't even be able to do as good.necromation
- oops, i've been timelinedjaylarson
- Jaline0
I like the cast, but even Joseph Gordon-Levitt is more "asian" than the rest of the people...

Fuck off Hollywood seriously, couldn't care less when they remake films that were already terrible (Pulse FFS, terrible film why even bother) but to go and remake classics that can't possibly be given the care they deserve like Akira and I hear an Evangelion remake is on the cards with that smug cunt harry potter girl.
And fuck off Americans for not being able to understand anything without American actors being all American in it, just look at those fucking war films where they replaced actual real people with history with pissing Americans
- I agree. its total shit.
Evangelion can never be made to live film... well not with the standards we have today. people wouldn't get it.sofakingzero - wouldn't get itsofakingzero
- I agree. its total shit.

Stay away - please leave this film alone.

This is Ruairi's oscar winning short. Groundbreaking it ain't, but it's clever, and it's made with love and artistry, at the time by a guy in his bedroom, with no resources. I'd rather he get the chance to pour his heart and soul into it than give it to Bruckheimer or the like. Good luck Ruairi.
- Souless character design, wouldn't look out of place on an insurance advertmodern
- white environment is the biggest lazy copout in 3Dmodern
- for it's time this was pretty good.ornj
- although he didn't win for it just got a nomination.

Somebody tell me of a successful live-action-movie-made-from-anim... please.
- jfletcher0
I think Leo will be fine, I worry about Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I love and own the anime... I worry this will be trash, but I really hope not.
- ukit0
I don't mind Leo in some films...but it's a bit unconvincing that they couldn't find a single Asian guy to fill that role. I mean, the story takes place in Tokyo FFS!
- Click on jaylarson's link. Try "New Manhatten"locustsloth
- Nmaes will probably be changed too. My guesses:
Kanada = Keith
Tetsuo = Teddy (Theodore)locustsloth - what...that makes no sense...considering it's still called "Akira." FAIL!ukit
- agreed. but if it is taken as a stand-alone product, maybe it won't be so badjaylarson

Apparently, the director is adapting the live action off the MANGA, not the anime. So it's not a live action remake of a remake. So, at least we know his intentions are good, but whether or not he can pull it off... most likely not.
To any DiCaprio naysayers.. you're pathetic. The guy is a fucking brilliant actor. To anyone who says "Titanic", to you I say "10 Things I Hate About You".
To be honest, for an American version of Kaneda, DiCaprio is absolutely perfect, though about 10 years too old. Check out his movie This Boy's Life, and that age he'd be absolutely perfect.
- Too many absolutelies.kult
- I thought he was pretty good in Titanic, even. Good cast. He's a great actor, but I wouldn"t say "brilliant".Jaline
- yes, brilliant doesn't enter my mind when I think of DiCaprio, but good does.Point5
- :|kult
- Primarily because his voice is so distinct that it somehow makes me believe he is playing the same character.Jaline

I will donate my life savings to have them turn that trailer into a full length. Thats how I feel right now.
- stoplying0
It'll probably stink, but I'll still watch it.
My life will go on.

turning akira into a live action film sounds like a recipe for disaster. americanizing it alone is enough to fuck it up. but if it must be done, i think samuel l. jackson would make a good colonel shikishima
- You can really find a role for him in pretty much every filmukit

there are no such things as a reliable news source,
I'm dead serious, you should read everything you can get your hands on and make up your own mind.everyone is biased in some way,
FIGHT DA POWER!!
- ukit0
I think Americanizing it is a recipe for FAIL. Half the appeal of the original were the awesome depictions of a future Japan.
It's also an insult to Americans to think they couldn't wrap their heads around a film with Asian actors. Lame.
- Point50
fuck this remake. they're going to "dumb it down" for the general public in hopes to make that bottom line.

steven spielberg is making Ghost in the Shell. I already know that's a recipe for disaster. He's going to take a perfect piece of art and turn it into hollywood crap. If ghost in the shell was to be made into a film, then oshii, should've been the one to make it, like his movie Avalon.
