Had a roku box and ditched it for chromecast once i realized how much typing with a d-pad sucks. Now just pull up anything in your phone (either type it in or use some fancy voice command) and it's on tv in no time.
The only downside is not having a dedicated remote, but it does support CEC so it can turn on your tv and if your tv remote has a pause button it will likely work once it is playing.

Upgraded to the new Apple TV yesterday. Anyone know if you can connect the iPhone remote app to it to use? That made it easy to type stuff instead of using the remote.
The single line alphabetical selector on the new one is awful. So are some of the app screens, like Netflix, where the preview or feature window takes up 2/3 of the screen, with the individual scrolling lists at the bottom. It's clumsy. I just want to see several rows of cards on one screen for a single category.
- I connected the remote app with my iPhone and iPad yesterday, does the trick nicely. Way better for typing as the keyboard pops up when activatedOctopiStimuli
- Of course you can. That's what the app is for. Or just use Siri because that shit is way faster.monospaced
- Screw Siri. I just get my roommate to type it with remote for me. Voice command too!pango
- Apple TV is and always has been one of their lowest points - ridiculously bad compared to the competition and only surviving because of that logo.fadein11
- @fadein, at risk of sounding like a fanboy, I have to disagree. It's not ridiculously bad, and its as many features the competition hasn't met, but whatevermonospaced
- I mean, I totally know they are missing a some content, but if you actually have used it you'd know it's not one of their lowest points.monospaced
- also, I've used the chrome and the amazon units, and they are pretty shit in comparison... only the roku seems to be better, and not by a tonmonospaced
- I have used the 1st generation one a fair bit. That controller lol - the antithesis of what Apple are about... Terrible device and expensive content.fadein11
- My Firestick cost £15 and does everything Apple TV does much better.fadein11
- I have it too and you've got to be fucking kidding.monospaced

- thanks bloc. how is it for live streaming sports?cbass99
- I don't do much live, but I hear there are apps that streams live sports pretty well.dbloc
- yep - loads of sports on there - you just have to install the apps/plugins into it - its quite complicated to set up on some devices.fadein11

Gave Vue a try and was going to cut the cord and use it, but Time Warner ended up cutting my bill about $20, making it almost the same price as Vue + 200mbps internet.
Vue was pretty good, definitely worth the price. The downsides are that channels are a little pixelated when switching and take a few seconds to clear up. Also no 5.1 surround sound, but sound wasn't bad at all. Also UI is pretty great, but the channel guide is a weird and using the controller is a little clunky. The DVR feature is also a little rocky – it worked sometimes but not always. Also the On Demand didn't always work either. Could just be first week jitters.
But the channel options are great and I'm definitely keeping this in the back of my mind. Give the 7 day trial a shot and see if it works for you. Luckily I can walk away from TWC at anytime and if I do it'll be to this, unless the DirecTV web option coming later this year is better. But by then Vue might be the option to beat.
- No 5.1 is pretty much a non starter for me. Sound is half the experience of you're doing it right.monospaced

I would save like 6$/month if I cut cable.
I have 3 services with my cable company, tv cable, gf cell phone and internet access. Cuz of that I have trio rebates... If I drop the cable i'd lose those rebates and save only 6$ ... so I'm keeping the cable.

Bought a Roku stick finally and ditched the Apple TV. Haven't had a tv for a while, but have been streaming random things. Curious about the kodi link. Never heard of it.
- Ditched AppleTVs and bought Roku 2's and 3's and much happier. More reliable in my experience. Better network connectivity. Better remote.ETM

in the process of getting rid of cable and whant to see what everyone's set up is. We got the new Nvidia Shield TV (very nice) and looking to maybe get the ClearStream 2V antenna and maybe combine those 2 with the Tablo or HDHomerun... the only thing bad about the Shield is that it doesnt yet support DirectvNOW (though not sure we even want that service anyway).
Also currently doing trial week of Vue... i have done trial of SlingTV and waiting on the launch of Hulu Live TV and YouTube Live.
- got rid of it recently. all you need is Kodi. period.
and maybe some apps for live sports_niko - tapping into illegal content through kodi or just all legal stuff?slinky
- both. Access to every movie and tv episode ever made. use it more for old content that's hard to find anywhere. Lax laws in canada anyway._niko
- if i can get it for free from a library why not get it for free through kodi? how else would my kid's have been exposed to the culturally important work such as_niko
- Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure? lol_niko

tv has been replaced by documentaries on the internet
and now documentaries are dead to me because i saw them all and what has replaced that its AMVs, Anime-Pictures...
i hate going to the movies also its always a bad movie
im more impressed with limbo and inside as a movie than movies in the theater .. my fav movies were gatteca, hackers, piwhat someone has to do is make a movie that is as amazing as limbo and inside
once you touch the void
you no longer want anything but a new young body not just a new body but a nice next gen anime body that dosnt need dentists that dosnt have armpit hair and body hair and a head that dosnt get headaches or gets fried
a body you can eject from at anypoint and enter a new body at anypoint- at first I thought talking all metaphysical with the limbo stuff. then...
http://store.steampo…Gnash - i forgot to mention a body that dosnt need deodorant also no beards and mustaches would save alot of moneywhostheet
- i think a guy should look more like a nice looking female than a manwhostheet
- i think it would be better if only hot girls existed no guys (males) and they can give themselves babies

We got rid of cable 3+ years ago and stream everything through our PS4. Amazon for movie rentals, and we alternate between Netflix and Hulu subscriptions depending on what's interesting. Couldn't be happier.
