Why do I have to slide the lock to change the volume of the ipod? There should be a volume slider above the slider lock or make it a hardware slider on the side of the device. I hate having to get to the volume when the music is too loud. (insert me being too old joke)

theres not a volume switch on the side like there is on the iPhone?

maybe you missed your calling. you should be working at apple and tell them what's what.

put on a tight black tshirt and black glasses and sneak into apple hq

iPod touch? if you double click the 'home' button twice, it should display the Pause/Play, next/last and volume controls of the iPod. it does on the iPhone anyway...

Volume should be accessible at EVERY level of interface. Even the locked screen.

Did you dual click the home button?

So, I still don't see the point of hiding that with a dual click. Just have it there all the time.
- Well, the bigger overlay because of that will hid my hott wallpaper.omgitsacamera
- + it's not locked, so the volume or song might change in your pocket.omgitsacamera

doesn't the volume buttons on the side work when it's locked? sure does on the iphone.
- Touch doesn't have the side buttons.omgitsacamera

iPod touch doesn't have volume buttons on the side. But the reason that it doesn't have a slider on the main screen and it is "hidden" is so that you don't adjust volume in your pocket on accident. Lets use reason here.

It's not bad UI at all. It's standard for many music players. You can't adjust the volume on any ipod without unlocking it first (granted they don't all automatically lock themselves)

It is an usability flaw. If we were to look for the reason for it I'd say it is a marketing decision, a part of the iPod/iPhone differentiation strategy. It is a tiny pain in the ass detail that pushes people towards getting an iPhone. Just as the scratch-loving iPod back is.
Aren't there remotes for the Touch?

= you did zero research at all in either your manual or the internets, yet are still feeling entitled to being correct. awesome.

Not to point out the obvious, but isn't the point of locking a phone/mp3 player/whatever to not allow control input?

Apple don't do flaws - stupid people....

"Volume should be accessible at EVERY level of interface. Even the locked screen"
I've never owned an audio player in my life that has had a lock hat doesn't lock the volume.
The whole point of a lock was to stop volume changing in your pocket, or stop play/pause etc.Maybe people should turn sound check on in iTunes and the iPod, that should keep everything at the same level.
