  "Volume should be accessible at EVERY level of interface. Even the locked screen"

  I've never owned an audio player in my life that has had a lock hat doesn't lock the volume.
  The whole point of a lock was to stop volume changing in your pocket, or stop play/pause etc.

  Maybe people should turn sound check on in iTunes and the iPod, that should keep everything at the same level.
