i'm not looking for health benefits..
I'm on a $25 an Hr rate now.

I just did a freelance gig for $40 an hour and felt bad about going that low. You deserve better dude. Take the next step up the ladder and get yourself a higher self worth.

In NY?
Seriously man, even if you are still moving up, you need to charge more.
Alos when you say FT are you talking about at an agency?
Because if you are they are going to be the opposite of what you are looking for. They will salary you, give you benefits, make you work overtime and not pay you for it.Sounds like you need to be a full time on site contractor for someone.
- doesnotexist0
do you have work online? I'd interested to see what you do for $25/hr
- ditto. I bet it is worth more than $25/hr.flashbender
- none online. :/
hiatus - biggrfx.com, but old, and nothing of what i do for them at the Marketing Co. that wants me FT.
hiatus - hmmm.....doesnotexist

I got a C-note here, which means you're all mine for four whole hours, bitch.
- tank020
25 dollar is really a low price,
i charge 60 euros per hour and i'm only freelancing after work hours.
It depends ofcourse what kinda client it is.
On the aiga site there is some advice about hourly rates and such...
- jp330
25 an hour works out to 52k a year or something like that - depending on where he lives, that may or may not be decent.
- in NY = not decent.
assuming the profile is trueflashbender - That's interesting math, and you have forgotten the taxes...NONEIS

doesnt AIGA have guidelines for the young man to price himself?
- tasty0
- $25 is a really low rate for NYC.
- And if they have given you this title "Sr. Designer - EAD and GroupM"
- What they are paying you is not the equivalent of a Sr. Designer or Executive Art Director. But if you are serious about going fulltime and can make it on that rate without struggling:
- If you worked 52 weeks at 40hs a week for $25hr you'd make 52K.
- Ask for 60K + benefits and vacation.- I have no design peers, and never asked......this is informative, i just been working........this is helpful.
Thanks gang....time to go pimp slap my boss for some money.hiatus

In all seriousness, hiatus, I know what you are saying. Doing this work was not my background at all, so I had no peers either, and no point of reference for my 'worth.' I taught myself and found someone dumb enough to hire me for cheap. Eventually, was exploited. My jaw still aches.
Anyway, meeting my wife was a help, as she had 10 years experience in account management and knew exactly what quality creative services are worth.
Point is, try and find some objective folks who work on the finanacial end, but not form the perspective of nickel and diming people. Big agency account people are good for this, they know the rates quite well for the different levels of quality and their market value. Good luck!
- I underpriced myself at my first "good" job too. You can never make that money up again.flashbender
