i have no idea what it takes to make it in NY. around here, $52k would be a middle of the road salary... most new grads start at $30k. of course that probably would even pay for an apartment in NYC.
- i mean ...would not pay...cramdesign
- 100k won't pay for it.harlequino
- Yeah, thats like 1/3rd...NONEIS

i love how all of the designers who say charge more don't have a link to their folios... if you're worth so much then why not flaunt it?

Get your yearly rate (aka annual salary) and knock 3 zeros off the end for your hourly rate. decent rule of thumb.

suckadontplay, seems you missed the point, we want him to ask for what he is worth, and $25, that's salve wages for any creative, I don't care how good or bad you are. I would argue that the sign of someone successful is a lack of time to update their portfolio, those are for GETTING a job, not keeping it.
- understood. but if you make decent money, how do you not have a web folio?suckadontplay
- i mean, you dont ever do freelance? Most people especially web guys need 1.suckadontplay

I'm not sure about NYC, but a lot of people make around $25 / hour. It should only be for students, but, unfortunately, it's not.
- $25 an hour for freelance though? Most web projects land around 40 hours, $1000 for...NONEIS
- a site is chump change, essentially giving it away to whomever pays you that much...NONEIS
- Not for design. For other jobs.Jaline
- then you have to take out %30 for taxes, those expenses have to get paid, not sure I could do it.NONEIS
- Those "other" jobs pay you consistently, this thread is about freelance...NONEIS
- Hmmm...true. I'm not familiar with freelance pay though. I suppose those others jobs would also have benefits.Jaline
