"The network said Russert suffered a heart attack while at work and could not be revived. He had just returned from a family vacation in Italy to celebrate the graduation of his son, Luke, from Boston College."

I just saw part of an interview he did with Bill O'Reilly from 2004. O'Reilly asked him what he (Russert) remembered about his dad, and Russert said (paraphrasing here), "He made sure I knew I was loved, but also that the world didn't owe me anything. I let my son know that I love him, but I want him to understand that he's not entitled."
That's a good dad!

from Wikidpedia...
"...While in law school, an official from his alma mater, John Carroll University, called Russert to ask if he could book some concerts for the school as he had done while a student. He agreed, but said he would need money because he was running out of money to pay for law school. One concert that Russert booked was headlined by a then-unknown singer, Bruce Springsteen, who charged $2,500 for the concert appearance."
Asking the tough questions, listening to the Bruce Springsteen.

You know, I'm sorry for him, and his family, and his network. I really am. Losing a man at that age, under those conditions, has got to be heavy to the people close to him. My heart goes out! It's fucking horrible to endure that kind of pain.
But people are acting like this guy was Martin Luther King, jr., you know? His death was the top story in the New York Times. And on CNN, and Fox News, etc..
And he was a talk show host, and a blogger! I mean, TV-wise, he wasn't even in the same league as Oprah, or Martha Stewart. But the media reacts like he was some kind of figure on the level of Geraldo Rivera, or Harry Reasoner.

he asked difficult questions in the obama/clinton debates. i don't know much about him besides that. seems like he was a "good" journalist.
