Advertising is rarely honest. Even when it is, people are too dumb to notice.
The recent TV ads for HEAT magazine were quite unbelievable. They pretty much say "Hey girls. You're all shallow as fuck and you'd probably offer your kids to paedophiles in exchange for a fresh slice of celebrity gossip".
And these twisted individuals still buy it, after the magazine has just insulted it's entire readership.
Maybe someone can YouTube the video - I can't be fucked.
- again, case by case basis. insults i definitely see there... but not lies.paraselene
- think you missed my point!moth

of course advertising is honest; like the adverts for aging cream which show young beautiful women holding their newborn while the brand implies that that child will hate their wrinkly haggard old arse pretty soon and they should buy this in a forlorn mission to remain youthful despite the terrors of motherhood and mortality. Kids hate ugly old people, its a valid strategy.
Real people really have these fears and hang ups, therefor advertising is utterly honest in exploiting them for gain. What the fuck else is having a big brain and access to a mass populace of sub intelligent plebs for exactly if not to make cash?
Plus, we WANT to buy into brands, we love them, we don;t just love trainers, we love what a particular type of trainer says about us; we're complete commercialised fucktards, advertising is *serving our needs*. yay for advertising.
and coke. and hookers. from bulgaria. they *want* to work in the sex trade. its fun, who wouldn't?

There is nothing honest about this industry. This site is a perfect example of that.

it's the same difference between fake breasts and a push up bra.

I'd say it depends entirely upon the client, the project at hand, and the designer. I've been involved in projects that range from total lies to beautiful honesty. That's why I hope to move in my career towards designing great, meaningful books, brands for non-profits I believe in, the arts (the sliver of it that ain't full o' shite, anyway)...
- presumably you don't feel that advertising a christian church is a lie...skt
- That depends on the honest of the message and manner of delivery.gramme
- BTW I personally would never design an ad for a church. A logo, yes, but not an ad. Big difference.gramme
- *"...depends on the honesty..." I meant to say.gramme
- nice one skt!_salisae_
- i don't understand the difference.paraselene
- But the brand itself is an advert of sorts? Did they pick a route yet by the way?skt
- the arts.. lolneue75_bold
- identity and advertising are simply two different types of communication, no?paraselene

I worked for corporate Armani Exchange, its pretty sickening what can go on in design and advertising. There were a lot of cool people there, and there were even more that just weren't "good" people to say the least. Cheap products, living off of glamorized hype from the souls of creative photographers and artists... I went home with 100 + Kenneth Cole etc shirts, and my mom told me I got ripped off, and that all I was paying for was the brand. Mind you... my mom is 65 and doesn't know much about what I do. Design isn't honest. Not anymore.
- you still got them shirts?neue75_bold
- Even if you paid 0, you got ripped off for dem shirts.2cents
