Is Flash doing ok? Or, should I ask: is doing Flash ok?
For a moment there it seemed that Standards naz.. err, evangelists were doing well on their way to corner Flash into merely being a decorative element on a website.
FI, Joshua Davis gone html, iPhone not supporting it didn't help either.
Do you still do full-blown Flash sites these days? Do customers specifically ask for that? Do they come to you saying they've been advised not to do a Flash site? (or say that after the site completion?)
How's your AS3 transition?

I don't think good flash design and development will ever die out, it's just that a lot of people have gotten a little sick of the bad rep flash got a few years ago for being over the top, poorly implemented and the scourge of the net in terms of all the banners etc.
It looks like a lot of the flash developers from a few years back have moved on but I'm sure there's still plenty of talent out there.

all the flash devs will go to adobe air apps, where shit like SEO doesn't matter.

Lets hope so, its pretty rubbish and the source of idiocy like that blog made entirely in flash by Fantasy Interactive... which did nothing a HTML blog can't do
- Hey I like to know more about this blog made in Flash- do you have a link for this?SoulFly

Also depends on client budget. A lot of brands can't justify paying for flash for certain projects when static html and imagery do the job just fine.

No, Flash isn't in decline. Let's stop being silly.

I think people have just started coming to their senses and using it where it is appropriate and enhances the user experience - not just because it animates things...

I sometimes suggest flash to clients to annoy them.

Almost all my work is Flash dev these days. Soon as I client figures out I can do this stuff reliably that's all they want. Not many requests for sites done in entirely in Flash though, mostly just elements within a site. This is a good thing though.
As for AS3, it was weird at first, but I now feel it is worth the effort. Actionscript used to feel a bit like trial and error to me. Now I feel like I really understand what is going on in my code. I'm even getting the hang of OOP and writing a lot more reusable code, which is proving to be a wonderful thing. It feels good to see my own class library building up.
Next step for me is to get into AIR apps. Anyone doing much in that area yet? Anyone have some good examples of great AIR apps?

Not on the decline. IMO.
I've actually just done the full circle. Did lots of As2 about 3 years ago, then for the last 3 years did lots of xhtml, css, js... and now doing lots of flash again.
As3 is a massive re-write of actionscript and I'm pretty excited to see what people start bringing out.
re: iphone, I'm pretty sure it'll make it there eventually.

iphone not supporting flash..
why is this even in your options that put the reputation of flash as a developing platform in jeopardy. That is the real question.Please..
next time, count how many people use a computer with a web browser on it.
Then, count how many people use an iphone.now, you can ask yourself the main question again. You should know the answer by now..
- There's more people using phones than browsing the web. Sooner or later every phone will have a browser.rafalski
- phones, yes..
iphones not.
Meeklo - computers = more
iphones = a lot lot lessMeeklo - flash will supported by iphone soon, and that won't change anything regarding flash still being a solid platformMeeklo
- I didn't put iPhone as a decisive factor, only a trend setting/reflecting one.rafalski

I think now that basically everything is built using AS, all of the timeline jockies have had to find a new gig.
