what's your weekly limit?
3 beers a night don't constitute alcoholism right?
- honest0
dammit it was supposed to be consumption
- trooper0
im a binger i dont drink all week then consume around 15 pints when i go out... very messy lol.
- Jaline0
That seems a bit much to me, but I don't drink (including most things with caffeine). So I would say it depends on how much a person could take before it starts to affect the other aspects of their life.
- morilla0
they say if you drink more than 2 a night,, it is considered alcoholism

The medically recommended units of alcohol per week is 14 for women and 21 for men. A pint of beer is 2 units but I wouldn't be worried, scientists and doctors are notorious for trying to curb peoples enjoyment of life.
When you start drinking cough syrup in the morning to get your buzz on, its probably time to cut down.

I drink Rosé wine each night.
- that doesn't make you an alcoholic, just a little camp...lolJnr_Madison

See if you experience symptoms of withdrawal.
---------
The Journal of the American Medical Association defines alcoholism as "a primary, chronic disease characterized by impaired control over drinking, preoccupation with the drug alcohol, use of alcohol despite adverse consequences, and distortions in thinking."The DSM-IV (the standard for diagnosis in psychiatry and psychology) defines alcohol abuse as repeated use despite recurrent adverse consequences. It further defines alcohol dependence as alcohol abuse combined with tolerance, withdrawal, and an uncontrollable drive to drink.
According to the APA Dictionary of Psychology, alcoholism is a new and popular term for alcohol dependence. The condition has been traditionally referred to by the medical community as dipsomania. Note that there is debate whether dependence in this use is physical (characterised by withdrawal), psychological (based on reinforcement), or both."

my dad carried a flask of whisky or vodka with him everywhere for 10 years and would top most nights off with like 4 beers...he quit cold turkey then smoking a year later, it was impressive
- he still drinks wine and port on occasion though, a beer now and then toooozie
- Sounds like a model of self-control compared to some people I saw last night.boobs
- yup, he seems to have a lot of self-control.Jaline

when i'm japan with the missus, we hit 3 beers to get chatty and then it's however much you can handle until your id tells you it's time for bed before you say something you'll regret. My wife slams 3 buds a night but calls it quits and slumps. when she hits the town she induces vomiting after a heavy session to curb hangover. I am pretty sure that's bad for you.

I try not to drink during the week but come Friday I'm knocking back the beer/wine/vodka. I don't drink as much as I used to but if I buy beer I usually get through a case of 24 in two days. If it's wine, sometimes two bottles a night. I rarely drink on a Sunday unless the weather's nice and I'm bored. Like today.
- I'll get through an average of 2/3 of a bottle of vodka in a night.5timuli

My record was one bottle of Smirnoff, a bottle of red wine, four cans of Stella and a few BNJ. I remember one night of 19 large cans of supermarket brand export lager too, at a beach bbq.

i generally kill a handle of vodka a week. what that translates into i don't know.

I went drinking in plymouth (england) and passed out after 8 pints whilst everyone was just getting ready to go out.
- drgs0
I never drink at home
- Jaline0
What's unfortunate (for me, anyway) is that it's almost a necessity to drink when you go anywhere now. I feel like I am being an asshole when I order something else, even though I shouldn't think that way.
- sureshot0
drgs...you drink at the tanning salon...we'll know.
