so i just got hired for a job as a developer at a software firm. the dress code is casual. so what is the business etiquette for those fitted "fcuk style" dress shirts.. tuck in or out?

People who tuck shirts in when not wearing a suit are obviously batshit crazy.

Eliminate the shirt altogether and say you thought it was "beach casual"

Keep it untucked, but well fit. It'll be fine.
- Yes. As long as it's not too long and it fits well.Jaline

Tuck it in. Only if you have a nice belt to complement it though.

If they're the more formal shirts with longer shirt tails I'd say tuck it. They look sloppy when they're untucked. The fitted, shorter tailed shirts I'd leave out.

- yeah, you can tell when it's supposed to be tucked in.Jaline

No one is going to fire you for tucking in your shirt.

Q: I love wearing a suit with no tie (think Tom Ford), but I can never find dress shirts with collars rigid enough to stand strong against my jacket lapels. Is there a style of collar that I should look for?

lol, my boss sorta glanced me up and down when i came into the office (with a fitted dark color shirt / jeans / white sneakers) to sign some papers the other day.. not to mention i was in full business attire when i had my interview.
- that sounds hot.Jaline
- the clothing, I mean, not the boss staring at you, LOLJaline
- lol - i realized i forgot to mention it made me feel a bit self conscious - if i was underdressed (although he said "casual" dress code) lolpkny
- ack, i mean when my boss glanced at mepkny
- yeah, makes sense. I'm supposed to be more dressed up at work but I never am.Jaline

Whats wrong with an untuck? What is the history behind its corporate frownage?
- mikotondria30
Jeez!
Shirts tucked in or out entirely depends, as Jaline says, on the cut of the shirt. Whether it is short enough to be worn untucked or not.
If it's not designed to be untucked, then it just looks like you haven't tucked it in. One designed to be untucked will look smart enough and have a clean enough line so that noone will think it's untucked and it will look as smart. Especially with the right shoes.- <3Jaline
- That's exactly what I meant.Jaline
- Deep Thoroughlogy. But about this business of untucking, why is this is 'unsmart'?philipdrumman
