Huh. It just occurred to me that if you shaved Ted Allen's (queer eye food guy) head, he'd look a lot like a young Dr. Gonzo.

I can't even begin to explain how much I loved Hunter S. Thompson's work, and the way he lived life.
- i am with you. he makes me aspire to do more drugs.capn_ron
- Well, I meant from the kind of I don't take shit from nobody aspect and I do whatever the hell I want.********

"The decline of the American Press has long been obvious, and my time is too valuable to waste in an effort to supply the 'man in the street' with his daily quota of clichés."

If you haven't, read his collections of letters. He rambles on as he would in real life, as opposed to a book (which aren't terribly far off anyway I realize). real gems.

My one friend's friend who was living in Colorado at the time (the initial friend used to live there) found a stumbling, mumbling Jack Nicholson on the side of a road and picked him up.
"I got to get back to Thompson's" were his first words and was getting into the car without being asked - he would have gotten into a ball of fire if it stopped and looked like it was going to pick him up, hahah.

Buy that book (above). Really beautiful, great design (http://smogdesign.com/ did it), and you get a nice print too.
And to top of off, the publisher (www.AMMObooks.com) are really great people.
- They have a Popular Edition outside of their Limited Edition.

Just got back from it. It opened here in MPLS on the 4th of July. Fitting. He is truly missed and needed.

I'm sorry, but Hunter S. was just another poor, depressed, sorry-assed, drug-addicted motherfucker.
The only good shit he did was written on speed. After his (brief!!) good period in the mid-1970s, he suffered a long, steady, boring decline. His early stuff (about the Hell's Angels, and all that) was utterly pedantic. His later stuff made no fucking sense at all. The middle period was sweet, but very, very short.
I feel sorry for the widow and family.
