Is it my fault?

So i art directed/designed a site. In the process of the build, the deadline got pushed up and we were forced to put 6 different flash developer/animators on it in order to make the deadline. Needless to say it became difficult to integrate everything, and inconsistencies became evident. In addition the client forced gross design changes. The end product is not what i had imagined. Since i am the head designer, am i at fault? Its a big name and my 2nd all flash site. Its one of my recent works, would it be worth putting in my portfolio?

Lets have a look at this mess

Well was the final product passable at least?

just because its recent doesn't mean its portfolio worthy...

To be honest, I'm surprised it took 6 flash developers to do this.
- usually the more people that work on something... the worse it turns out to be.********
- they were all working on seperate parts, getting pull on and off the project due to other projects. kinda of a messsoynutz7
- looks like the tricky part was the dynamic data, for press section/ store locator/ tree menus etc. I could see that stuff taking a good chunk of time if I were to develop em all alone.T-Dawg

Did the client notice the mistakes?
- no, they were to focused on getting certain things into the site that weren't part of the orginal SOWsoynutz7

not bad, although the logo stands out as average. Also, people might not want to wait for all of that build-up.

- ya, the logo was done by another agencysoynutz7

also, why did you resize the browser? Doesn't look like you've got anything fullscreen up in there.

No, it isn't ultimately your fault, although if you are in a position to re-educate your client on expectations and realistic deadlines, then by all means do so and be firmer next time.
If the site is riddled with inconsistencies, by no means should it go in your portfolio. I think it's a no-brainer. It sucks, but don't show any work that has evident problems.
- ya, i guess you're right,i was hopin i could slide it in. cause its kinda eye candy.soynutz7

i like the cursive script stuff too

ok, how about this one. The IA is wonky and was developed by someone else and signed off on before i got on the project. But i did the Art direction/design for this as well.

lets hope the client doesn't look at all the traffic from QBN and then read you talking about them making gross changes.
- i guess i should be a little more discrete huh?soynutz7

if I'm honest there is very very little I have done throughout my 7 year career which I could look at and say wasn't compromised and looked and worked as well (from a design portfolio perspective) as I had originally designed and intended. For a long long time this really bothered me, but I think in reality most of us (particularly when working on the net) have to realise at some point that compromise and things not turning out the way you want is a simple fact of life in the medium not fret to hard over it.

is it good enough for the folio? - is it better than what is there now?
- whats up, is what i designed, is that the question?soynutz7
- what i mean is you should only add it to yr folio if it adds something or attarcts a particular clientmaximillion_

why would clients be on QBN?
this blows my mind.
- eh. because they might be checking where traffic is coming from.Jnr_Madison
