Anyone know of any good shops (design or advertising) in San Diego???? My fiance and I want to leave the midwest, but not sure the big players down there... I'd even be open to an internship... Thanks in advance.

There are a ton of design agencies around town. When I first moved here 7 years ago i carried my portfolio and just started knocking on doors. I would recommend that you compile a list of firms and locations then just start making calls to show your work. Off the top of my head, here is a list of cool agencies:
thinkfeelwork.com - Morris Creative
tylerblik.com - blikGo to creaativehotlist.com and type in the zip code 92101 for jobs downtown as well.
- just delete one of those a's and your good on that last link.capn_ron

use this:

- in fact, if they are not hiring you have more chances to find work, I think..Meeklo

Is SD all surf-style-photo-copied-roughed...
BTW, as a surfer I'm so sick of surf ads that sport that aesthetic. It's all totally devoid of meaning. Then again, it is advertising, which doesn't seem to mean much of anything anymore.

Ah, I don't know much about SD, but I know I love that place. I'll be there on the weekend of the 4th again! and no, I won't be knocking on agency doors.

I work for myself and for a really small company that is not presently hiring.
I had a couple friends who have worked at http://www.epiccycle.com/
I once applied at http://www.gearyi.com/ and it looked pretty cool.
What type of work do you do?

There are also the Studio Arts Complex (Little Italy) and the Art Studio (East Village) Buildings that have smaller design firms in them. I would even knock on those doors to see about some freelance opportunities. They have places like Kramer Design and 619 Design.
- Meeklo0
I had an interview with 619 a few years back when they were in downtown, cool office

Thank you all very much... This is a great start...
As for what I do... I am a younger designer/art director just starting to put together my online portfolio... I was working at one of the larger local agencies in Nebraska (yes NE, sigh, small fish in national scale, very small)... My emphasis is in print (design/advertising) along with identity and conceptual ads. I am a big fan of firms like TAXI or RETHINK in Canada along with the design work of firm's like ATTIK or HORNALL ANDERSON (Seattle)... Thanks again.

instead of starting a new thread, i am kicking this 5 years old one alive. hah.
due to the major layoffs at Sony electronics, i am now started to look around for a new job. i would prefer to stay in S.D. it's great here.
who's hiring? freelance or full-time. (senior designer).
