just finished watching this about an hour ago... I'm going to give it a thumbs up. It was old school Indy, what more can you say? Harrision Ford was great and so was Cate. I feel like it fit right in with the rest of the movies. I watched the trilogy over the past week and as I did I saw a lot of poorly done special effects and green screening (but that was the best at the time of those releases) and thought for a minute "I really liked these movies" but as each movie progressed I realize it's the adventure and character development that really make me love the movie. Yes, there was some cheesy moments in this flick that made me cringe, but the previous three had the same cheesy shit.
AND THIS WAS BETTER THAN ALL THOSE SHIT COMIC MOVIES THAT HAVE COME OUT IN THE LAST DECADE! (finally, vindication)*
*cept I haven't seen Iron Man yet

Sorry guys I went in with an open mind and I really wanted to like this movie but...e-pill was right - this movie sucked!! It's a shame too because the first half hour was brilliant...vintage Indiana Jones with the perfectly timed action and comedy...the fifties setting was great...even the new guy didn't piss me off too much.
Then they go to South America and the whole thing just goes to shit. The "crystal skull" from the title is supposed to be the centerpiece of the movie, and looks like they got it out of a fucking head shop. The legend behind the thing is so convoluted you have no idea what's going on, and after some dodgy action scenes, before you know it the movie's over (but not before a particularly cringe-inducing scene involving CGI aliens beaming up into outer space). Parts of it were so bad I could barely watch, but couldn't look away. Anyway, you will probably go see it anyway, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Seriously...how can you guys say this movie was good?

I honestly liked it BETTER than Iron man. Iron man was very good....I just don't think I'd every watch it again.....it never reached that Spiderman 2 kick assness.....Speiderman 2 cannot be beat apparently. Anyway....I would definetly watch Indy 4 again....so...BETTER than Iron man...sorry.
- Better than Iron man?? I feel like I'm taking crazy pillsmtgentry

Fun time at the movies, but certainly not a good film the way "Iron Man" (or the original "Raiders") was.

Saw it this morning at arclight hollywood...
It was pretty fun - I thought it was a little better than everyone is saying

Well, the movie wasn't good in the same way that Citizen Cane is good... but for me, it was fun to watch, so I agree that it was good.
- No one's expecting Citizen Kane...there's a difference between a mindless action movie that is well done and one that is shit...just my opinion:Dukit
- one that is shit...just my opinion:Dukit
- Citizen Kane..boooJaline
- not really my favorite either... just usually a movie considered officially "good"cramdesign
- for sure. I think I skipped that film class ;)Jaline
- Citizen Kane is ......

can someone enlighten me on this alien-related stuff? supposedly the skull is alien which whatever, is fine...but do you really see actual aliens taking off as i've read elsewhere. 'cause if so...damn.
the latest 3 star wars didn't really ruin the first 3 for me, but on the other hand the two sequels to the matrix totally ruined the first one, which was one of my fave movies. so i'm not gambling with this indy film if it's going to ruin the first three (which i love) in any way.
i need an honest opinion here :\
- yep. aliens. they take off and everything. lame. still, it was a fun movie. go see it, get some popcorn.cramdesign
- oy vey!sputnik2
- this is exactly why i hated the movie, otherwise it was a fun Indy movie.e-pill
- ukit0
Yep, actual aliens...and of course they look like the same aliens you see in every movie. Little green men with giant heads. If we ever discover real aliens and they don't look like that, I'll be hugely disappointed LOL
- can we say those aliens were stolen from Giger. nothing original at all!!!e-pill
- sputnik20
OMG you actually see the aliens as well, not just some distant ufo taking-off to give you the impression they've been here?
*faints

I didn't have such a big problem with the aliens, it just seems like they could have added a lot more suspense and mystery to it. One of the cool things about Raiders/ Last Crusade is that when they revealed the secrets of the Arc or the Grail, there was a real sense that you were venturing into the unknown. An fucking chill went down your spine when Indy encountered the 2,000-year-old- knight at the end of Last Crusade for instance. Whereas in this movie the ending was totally rushed, and it was just like they walk into a well-lit room, and, hey, there's the aliens.
- i know just what you mean about those elements being revealed in the other filmssputnik2

I havent seen the other Indy movies (I keep falling asleep) but seeing this in the theatre was a thrill-ride in fantasy that I enjoyed very much. (make the logo bigger)
The references to the reptilian body-snatchers was golden.
And those ants...holy shit those ants....Probably the best cinematography I have seen this year (Although there were flaws in some shots). The attention to detail in the photographic composition was excellent. (Reflections)
The organic effects were almost flawless and is a triumph.
The old guard still has it.

I understand if people wouldnt really like it. These days people are looking for more realistic affairs, but it was a great ride.
