Beware the lollipop of mediocrity - lick it once and you suck forever

Ah, right then, well.. I'm not hoping to acheive anything, I try to change the fornt page image about twice a week at best, and once a month at worst. The reason for drawing the word is that I'm doing a huge personal project at the moment: a 100 word statement hand-drawn word by word.
I did one once before (the Sketchbook section of my website) but the first time I did it it was all about borderline illegibility and testing to see if people would realise the random illustrations actually added up to a sentence... they didn't. Huge fail.
This one is going to be more obviously a narrative sequence and it will be a book, poster, maybe a little stop motion YouTube movie etc. Its a little story. Each word needs to visually evoke the word somehow, even little bridging words. "Mediocrity" is meant to look, well, mediocre.

would have been so much better without the character or the balloons, they seem to throw the balance off of the style.

"would have been so much better without the character or the balloons, they seem to throw the balance off of the style".
Ah, see, I drew the word, and then I deliberately putthose half puffed balloons in and the character. A barely considered character design, a couple of half inflated baggy balloons, and off centre. Sort of mediocre, not as good as it could have been. A bit off balance. Mediocre. Without those things it looked like I was presenting a lettering style that happened to say "Mediocre". It has to look and feel mediocre. It will be in very stark contrast to all the words that precede it. It will hit the eye like a gateaux of vapid mediocrity, with the balloons, and the stupid doughy man.
HUSSAR!

I understand, however I still think just the word would have done. Something done so intricately and stylized is a contrast enough to the word it spells out. I'm a minimalist though.
- But also, I'm looking to contrast, I'm looking to express.Spookyhome
- ARRRGH, I mean I am *NOT* looking to contrast, I am looking to express. God damn notes, always wrong.Spookyhome

I've been rocking mediocrity since birth. This illustration touches me in places I didn't even know I had.
- Spookyhome0
Creative, you are often very down on yourself I have noticed. A public forum visited by many many thousands of our peers 24 hours a day is probably not the best environment to probe you further on this, but still, hey, whats the big idea?
- creative-0
Ha, just poking fun at myself for the comic benefit of others, kinda like Norman Wisdom.
- Ah, the justified art of DumbKungFu.
I am not alone.Spookyhome - Indeed

Mediocrity seems to be celebrated, more so than ever before.
You should sell it as an iPhone wallpaper.

ure fishing for complements?
- Spookyhome0
Drgs, No, if I was doing that, I wouldn't be showing you a mediocre word, drawn to be as mediocre as possible. My question was whether it was unwise to put it on my homepage.
I do often post drawings up here to invite comments, but in my experience well meaning compliments don't provide anything worthwhile or costructive. What really helps me, and anyone else for that matter, is hearing the negative things. Negative criticism can often confirm one's own concerns and help to move things forward and improve. Compliments however, don't tell anybody anything constructive. They just make everything seem 'nice' for a short while.
On this occasion though the question was "is it dumb to greet visitors with the word 'mediocrity'?" not "what do you think of my drawing?"

It doesn't make you work seem mediocre if that's what you're thinking
- drgs0
i feel its a subtle way of saying "haha man, im fucking great, this mediocrity drawing here, oh im just being ironic over how great my work is, so suck my dick looosersss"
