"It boggles the mind."
It sure does, Mr. Salisbury. It sure does.

I don't believe the poster committed an actual crime. I mean it was a lie, but at the very least it could be joked off as a harmless prank that went terribly awry.
If anything the ball for what happened next is in Craigslist's court I think. We all know they have safe guards, and rely on the community to inform them of all things illegal and or extremely distasteful - but is/was it enough?
And yes. Every single person who can be connected to the stolen property should be charged with breaking & entering, and theft.
A piece of paper that says you can have something, from an anonymous posting on a public website does not give anyone the fucking right ... I mean ... what the fuck, haha!? I can't even finish that thought!
They should also not be able to bear children because they are fucking retarded, but unfortunately that won't happen.

I think the poster may be liable because it was inciting people to action. If I led a rally saying "I'm John Doe, take anything in my house for free" I think I'd be just as liable in that case. Just because it was a craiglist posting doesn't make it appear that much different. I'll ask my brother, he's a law student. I think he would find it interesting.
