Got a major issue, and before I start, I have tried filter and after a quick scan through I couldn't find anything that relates to my issues...
I start up my MacBook and the apple/grey screen appears, and it begins to process (well the icon starts spinning) but it won't go beyond that, my patience has lasted 25 mins, before I try again, I have tried re-booting the PRAM boot it doersn't seem to work... what do I do? as I need to start my day at some point!!

At the chime, hold down shift until the apple and spinner appears. That should force it into Safe Boot
- Tried it got a odd looking screen, which asked me to re-start?!uncle_helv
- Kernel Panic (equivalent of Blue Screen Of Death). You got some issues... see my post belowcreative-

Have you tried booting off the MacOS X install DVD and running Disk Utility to repair permissions and check/repair your HD?

Have you recently put new memory in? It could be corrupt ram that's causing the mess, try taking out the ram one at a time and see if she starts up.

Try here

Ive been having issues with mine lately too, (not exactly the same as yours though) I boot it into Disk mode holding down "T" when it starts, this will just boot it so you can get data off it with a firewire cable, worst case.

Ok, try this.
• At the chime, hold down Command+s until the screen goes black. It'll go all Matrixy but eventually come to a stop (at a prompt)
• Type: 'fsck -y -f' (including the spaces). It will begin a file system check which may take a while.
• When it is finished it will either say the filesystem was okay or was modified. If it's okay, type 'exit' to boot the machine (it will do some more Matrix stuff as it does so). If it was modified, type 'fsck -y -f' again to recheck the filesystem. Once done, type 'exit' to boot. This is basically running Disk Utility but I've had more success doing this than running it of the install DVD in the past.

If none of the above work, try doing an Archive and Install: http://docs.info.apple.com/artic…
That should sort out any OS related issue. If it still doesn't work, clone the drive using Firewire Target Disk mode and take it to the Apple Store.

helv, follow this:
To run OS X File System Check:
Click on Apple menu – Restart
During bootup, press and hold Command + S to startup in Single User mode
At the command prompt local host:/ root# / type the following:
/sbin/fsck –fy
Press the Return key. This executes the File System Check and allows any repairs needed. Notice the display indicating what is being checked (HFS Plus volume, Extents Overflow file, Catalog file, multi-linked files, Catalog hierarchy, volume bit map, volume information)
If errors are found, you’ll see the message FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED. If so run the File System Check command again until all errors are repaired and you see the message The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK
At the command prompt local host:/ root# / type the following:
reboot.

Thanks again creative- have tried it and it has give me this
invalid node structure
(4, 239)
** Rebuilding Catalog B-tree.
** the volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired.Does this mean it's fucked or is there anything else I can try!?!!

Ok, firstly I'd back up all your stuff to an external drive. Then I'd use DiskWarrior http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrio… to try and repair the drive. If you can't get a copy of that, or it doesn't work I would then completely erase the volume, writing zeros across the disk and reinstall. This can be done using the Disk Utility app on the OS X install DVD.
Hope this helps, back up asap!

I know this may sound retarded but how do I get into my desktop/Har Drive again, as it stands I can't get beyond the apple start up page?
- That's the problem, the disk error you saw is preventing it. I'd strongly urge you to back up your important data now...creative-
- as this happened to me, eventually stopping me from seeing my hard drive at all. I had to use a recovery...
creative- - utility and had the worst weekend trying to salvage all my data.creative-
- Once your data is off you can do whatever it takes to fix it.creative-

To back up you'll need to use Firewire target disk mode into another Mac. You could then make a bootable clone of the drive (shouldn't copy across the errors I don't think) using Carbon Copy Cloner http://www.bombich.com/software/… or just drag your files over.

If your Macbook Pro is randomly restarting by itself that means its overheating huh?
