I drink instant coffee. I like a proper bean coffee on occasion too, but never go for lattes/cappucino drinks, always a simple filter coffee. Mostly though I use coffee as my daily fuel and instant is just fine for that. Four cups maximum at studio. Tea at home.

Latte's are a ritual in Melbourne 1 - 3 daily although after reading slappy's post, I might give up and see how I feel...

I did the math recently and realized I was drinking 4-6 cups each morning between home and work. I have been drinking coffee every day for years, but I don't get much sleep and I think it's been taking a toll on me.
I tried cutting to one cup a day and I think I can do that.
But now I'm experimenting with giving it up altogether - all caffeine actually. We have free soft drink machines at work, and been drinking way more of those than usual.
So I'm trying to switch to herbal tea right now, juice, etc. In fact this morning I made a smoothie in the blender for the first time in months. Protein powder, greens liquid, blueberries, strawberries, almonds, green tea. I used to do this every morning.
But I love coffee WAY too much to think I could totally give it up. I tried once for a week and it was brutal. I had none yesterday and went to bed at 9:30 pm.
Anyhow, when I do make coffee, I have a maker that grinds the beans right before it brews. It's on a timer, goes off when I get up in the morning. It's great and tastes fantastic.
I just want to know what it's like to be free of caffeine more than anything.

1. I'd say about 10 cups of drip coffee and 6 3-4 shot latte's a week.
2. About a pound per week, whole bean
3. I like the dark roasts, almost always buy from Pablo's, $10-15 per pound. Favorite blends are their espresso blend, "Danger Monkey," "Two Stroke Smoke," and Yemen Moka Sanani. http://pabloscoffee.gourmetfoodm…

moved from a lifetime of coffee into the wonderful world of tea. Once you've had loose leaf tea there's no reason to go back.
When i had the monkey still on my back, my coffee of choice was a small roaster with a shop in San Francisco called Caffe Roma. You can mail order that junk and it'll do ya just fine.

the coffee in London, as a whole sux really bad I think. I see so many rookies using espresso machines the wrong way that buying a coffee from an unknown location has come to be a massive gamble.
I hate being one of those starbucks moaners BUT the bad quality doesnt bother me except the fact that they have accustomed half the word to drinking their shit so people have little to no taste in good coffee these days.
That said I know there are some good ones round but not in a location relevant to my day to day rituals.
Anyone getting good coffee in Shoreditch/Old Street that I dont know about????

I quit drinking coffee about a month ago. I could no longer handle the hateful feelings it gave me, as well as anxiety, suspicion, muscle pain, restless sleep, etc. I only had one espresso a day but I believe I may be allergic to the oil from the bean.
Nowadays I'll drink green tea or yerba matte if necessary. it had such a negative effect on me I honestly don't even miss it.
- i would bet the acid from brewing (american style) was affecting you pretty bad.madirish
- as it clearly cannot be the caffeine.... as what you drink now has much more.madirish
- i agree. another symptom i had was a tightness under my right rib cage .. either my liver or gallbladder swelling._salisae_
- laying on my left side caused a lot of discomfort. it really kind of freaked me out. glad to have a calm nervous system once again. :)_salisae_
- again! :)_salisae_
- sorry .. my right side. i was restricted to lying only on my left._salisae_
