get a fucking dog if you're so worried. Doberman or something, you can walk around outside looking tough with it too, instead of just rubbing yourself against it in the basement. which you can also do with the dog.
- I had a Doberman that looked like a scary mother, in actual fact it was just a placid chilled out son of a bitch.Jnr_Madison
- ...literally.Jnr_Madison
- Dobermans are fantastic dogs. My grandparents had a couple.odinie
- I love Dobies. The all-time, super, greatest, most-wonderful Law-house dog, was a doberman named Ripley.blaw
- I still miss her.blaw

Smaller dogs are better, Kelpie - My Dad's two neighbours were both robbed around Christmas time - whilst the families were in the house. One family had a large Scottish dog/hybrid thing, the other some dobermans (dobermen?). We, in the middle, weren't robbed because the two yappy little dogs we've got made such a fucking racket that we were all woken up - I switched on lights and stumbled around swearing like fuck and getting really pissed off at them. It was only in the morning that we found out what had happened. I felt so guilty and spent all that day walking and feeding them, by way of apology.
Next door's dogs were both .. er.. in the doghouse. They'd been distracted by being fed piles of Serrano Ham!
As for the gun side - the English neighbours to the left were woken up as the two thieving gets came into their room - what got rid of them? The sight of the flabby bastard husband running towards them, naked. He chased them right down the street, shouting like a gorilla, apparently.
Ho hum. And that was Christmas. Next week, on 'Adventures with detritus', 101 alternative uses for margarine around your house.

I will now offend loads of people.
People who buy guns are idiots.1. The trauma of actually killing someone with you for the rest of your life.
2. The cost (lawyers, legal fees etc) far out weights having your iPod stolen.
3. Trying to explain to your kids why there is a man in the hall with his brains splattered all over the place.
People who break into your house are not doing so to kill you or your family. They are petty criminals after goods they can sell quickly like DVD players and the such. Or looking for cash for drugs. Get a dog. Get some locks. Live your life without worrying about this shit all the time. Don't leave a gun lying around the house for your kids to find.
- I'm not offended. Guns are for wankers and cowards.jaylarson

The impression that every gun owner is barricaded in their home, cowering in fear of an attack is ludicrous.
I agree with having a gun for home security and I don't know anyone that actually expects to need it. I don't hunt, but I do enjoy shooting, as a sport. Just targets and whatnot. It's challenging and entertaining.
Trust me, I have a deep understanding of the issues caused by gun violence and I'm not trying to dampen the severity of that situation, but mention guns around here and everyone jumps on a chair holding their hemlines.
By the way, no one with half a brain leaves a gun "lying around the house" for a child to find. Every gun owner I know (in rural PA, that's a lot) has a gun safe.

Saw one of these on the Rob and Big show...

Stop the perp dead in his tracks or sneak up on a friend and blast away. Hilarity will ensue...

Unfortunately a lot of people with half brains own guns. Take that guy in the video allowing his child to fire the machine gun. If you had to do course or a test or something I'd have less of a problem with it. Just most people don't. Most people see how people hold guns in action movies and believe thats how you hold one. Most people don't know what damage a gun can do. Most people think they need one 'just in case' when in fact they don't.

Maybe it's a cultural thing, but I remember being taught how to act around guns since I was a little kid. Very similar to "don't play with matches".
Seriously, were none of you guys Boy Scouts? Guns and gun safety is a part of that all the way down to BB guns for Tiger Cub Scouts.
