if you ain't got one, chances of someone using one on you are massively reduced.
common knowledge in Europedia.

that's what they say but I call bullshit. someone busts into your house in the middle of the night you can pull a shotgun from under your bed. if you're sitting on your couch watching a movie you can pull one from underneath. All cops have guns in their couches.
What your talking about is people who carry gun out side. They're the one who lose them in wrestling matches.

Bollocks mate, if you have a gun and they have a gun you give them no option - survival instinct, innit?
If you are unarmed you empower them to make a choice, if you would rather put yourself in the situation of having to shoot them before they shoot you I sincerely hope it never comes to it.
- Hmm...interesting point...Jaline
- If they have an out though, chances are I bet that they'll take it. If you corner them...thats different.odinie
- and of course you WOULD try to corner a gunman wouldn't you, theat seems clever.emecks
- I couldn't trust that someone who broke into my house in the middle of the night would make the right choicevoiceof

For a shotgun, I'd recommend a Remington. For self defense anything should be fine, 4/10 or better. Just think about the layout of your home for the type of shells you buy. Since it's inside, if you're a decent shot definitely go for a slug or something with a very small spread– you don't want to spray the whole family with pellets in the middle of the night.
- you have no idea how scary this is for europeans, triuly. Even those like me who have gun "experience".emecks

- Even scarier for the baddies who think they are going to get some easy loot.odinie

I'd rather take my chances with a shotgun at close range verses a crackhead with a nine mm. The thread is about what firearms are good for American home defense, not limey slap fighting.

Is it stupid to buy a gun because if the way it looks?

my room mate keeps a machete under his bed. may not be a gun, but will sure as hell do some damage to an intruder.

I was thinking about getting a 1911 of some sort...probably too much power though unless I really train. If you hit the person though...goodnight.

Airsoft if fun if you just want to shoot your friends. That's better if you just really want some sort of gun because you can get it out of your system, and get in skirmishes with your friends.
If you are buying one for home defense, I would highly recommend you practice, practice, practice. Prepare yourself for any scenario that you can imagine. There are some instances where even if I had a gun, I wouldn't use it. Just educate yourself as much as possible, and train because many people think they could defend themselves, but they lack the fundamentals and overestimate their abilities.

You certainly shouldn't need a tactical shotty (unless you're trained to use it, or have some experience with it). The 'plastic' is a good thing– composite stocks make it light and easy to handle, still just as strong. Pistols are good put shotguns are easier to use and handle.
- Llyod0
why no tactical? how is using it different?
- ismith0
I didn't actually read the page, but the difference is usually in the feedback and the fact that you're supposed to disassemble and reassemble upon every use (so no storing it fully assembled in the closet if you expect it to fire cleanly).

Lloyd would this work for you?
