Maybe it is just me but #1 looks a bit like a Disney site...or a site directed at 14 year olds. I think it's the color choice and the typeface is weak.
From a prospective student perspective, nothing about this speaks to cutting edge or technologically saavy.

I agree, it needs to be shinier. Could you do some chrome accents maybe?

one.

I prefer the colours of 1 but the layout of 2. Though I find both a little all over the place. Like a lot of websites I'm not sure where you want me to read first. There's no 'hook' and I'm left looking at a bunch of buttons...
Oh god, I sound like some kind of client.
- no your response was far more sensible, just cranky734
- Cranky? I'LL GIVE YOU CRANKY!!!JerseyRaindog

Yea 1 is definitely too disney, Id restrict the color palette a little and lose the sign-painter font, its a retro-ish vernacular that I dont think an arts school should have.

Definitely #1 but with the combined middle section (calendar, tour, headlines) from #2.

1, let crap font go, perhaps tone colours down a little.
less pop i suppose. that means less cock.
more shine less popxx

is it just me or are both of those a little too web 2.0ish? I'd think a art/design school would want their site to be a little more out there. Something less webby and more contemporary, like moma.org?
- helloant0
but given a choice, 1.

#1 is youth oriented, nice... However it's still the Art Institute. Ai will always lack credibility.

#1 .. less 'teen pop magazine' color pallet though
looking good

#1 reminds me of: http://web.burza.hr/en/ for some reason. probably the colours and the fonts.

#1
#2 is more legible, but kids can't read+

Personally I find them far too consumer focussed and not at all suited to an educational insitution, especially not an arts insitution.
It all looks too salesy and gimmicky.
