i received a 4x6 intuos3 as a gift
still getting the hang of it- I was thinking of going with the 4x6 because of the small footprintDUKIE0822

I only use mine for texture painting and occasionally doodling

if you are using up a shit-load of your system resources (aka using windoze like me) it may stop working for a bit compared to a system mouse or a trackpad which usually doesn't need extra software to run.

i love the smaller one, less movement of your arm to get around the screen.

I use the Bamboo. Gets the job done.

I prefer the A5 size. bigger is just too much of arm movement for me.
I have a Intuos3 at work and a Bamboo at home. The Intuos as better response to pressure but the Bamboo does the job well too.

thanks for the help...I went with the 4x6 intuos for the smaller footprint and portability
and if anyone needs a tablet..I got a great deal on a refurbished one on academicsuperstore.com- and you don't need to be a student

The bamboo site tells nothing about the product

9x12 intus3 and i love the size. arm movement is not an issue, keeps me alive.
but i guess a little late to be dropping my input.

I have the 9x12 size where I work. Since I'm not much of an illustrator, it sits on my desk taking up space and only gets used about once every 2 months or so. I think I could have been ok with a smaller size, but it's nice to have a larger "canvas" to draw on.
If you are naturally a good illustrator it's an invaluable tool, but for someone who doesn't do much drawing it's really not worth it.
- have you ever tried retouching or simply use any PS tool with it? It's a all new dimension!!ESKEMA
- you're crazy. get through the learning curve and you'll be using it for everything.horton
- I'll need to re-arrange my desk to make it easier to get to. Might be worth another shot.nocomply
- I would love to have one to do custom text. Much easier than scanning or taking pictures of my work.Jaline

have an older 12" intuos. i rarely use it but it is awesome when i need it... id mostly recommend adjusting the seetings until you feel comfortable holding the pen. and then use it as much as possible... its going to feel very different than a mouse. use it instead of your mouse for a few days and learn your keyboard short cuts so you dont have to be clicking around the interfaces and can keep your hand in one place

So this brings up a questions I've been wondering.... Do any of you use the tablet + pen as a complete mouse replacement? Like using the pen to navigate the OS and the internetz?
Or do you just use it in PS, Illy, etc.... I've heard of people dropping the mouse and exclusively using the pen, and thought they were crazy.

Not me.. but if I owned a cintiq I'd feel differently. I have their old 9x12 widescreen flat board.. And it's kinda well not realistic enough for me to enjoy using as an illustrator.

In my case it's not a replacement of the mouse for the other OS tasks, only use it on specific software but know a lot of people who doesn't use the mouse anymore. depends on each person habits
