In the UK you can be sat intoxicated in the driver's seat with the keys in your hand, engine off and still be done for intent to drive while intoxicated. That's pretty harsh.
- ditto in the US of ATheBlueOne
- Guess the message is if you've had anything to drink stay out of your carcreative-
- yup, creative. Not sure about Canada...it's probably the same.Jaline
- In the US TBO? As far as I remember that even with an open bottle with you in the car is illegal.jaylarson
- Depends from state to state...but yeah..no open bottle in NY for sure..TheBlueOne
- no open bottles in WI, neither. MN too I think.a_iver
- I think its legal in texas.inhaler97

Isnt there that legal notion that you can commit a crime to prevent a greater crime taking place ? Lets say the fine was 150 for having the car parked on the wrong side, and 300 for towing and reclaimation fee, thats 450, if the charge for driving it is only 400, then you're fine !
Ish..- except... parking infringements aren't crimesribit
- Then how can they fine you ?********
- not all infringements of the law are crimes. Exceeding the speed limit is also against the law, but not a crime.ribit
- whereas driving dangerously is a crime...ribit

my friend got caught drink driving, he was wasted (and a dickhead for doing it) he got a 3 year ban and a fine. Fingers crossed they may not be as harsh as you think. Prisons are full enough

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it. You are way more respectful than I would ever be to anyone DUI:ing.
Been beating myself up over this and things aren't exactly sweet on the home front either .... And I don't blame her. I might miss out on the baby's first month(s) and I can't even begin to describe what that feels like.
Been with my lawyer for most of the afternoon and he's pretty confident at this point. Serving time would truly farking suck so he better get me out of it. I was only moving the car, but for all they know I could have been driving for hours ... and I can't argue with the fact that I was tanked as hell and I WAS behind the wheel.
Another thing, that feels pretty insignificant at this point, is that I might lose the license for up to 18 months .... I do have an (expired) Monégasque license I can probably use for the time being, but it could mean even more hell if they ever do a thourogh check on it and see it's no good ....
And to add insult to injury, this was in my 997 which was basically sold on thursday , but is now impounded indefinitely.
I just really just have let them towed it ...

Do yourself a favour and stay away from doing anything that may harm your case or make things worse at home. Also forget the car, compared to jeopardising your relationship and missing out on your kid's first months this is nothing.
Concentrate on clearing your name as best you can and take it from there. Show a mature and sorry attitude and it will speak volumes and hopefully reduce the severity of your punishment.

I hope things works out, jawks.

Point out to the authorities, early and often, that you weren't driving drunk, you were merely parking while drunk.

man, after reading what you said, the US really is lax with their DUI laws. A buddy of mine never spent more than 10 hours locked up after being pulled over for DUI. The first time they let him call a ride to pick him up, the second time was fines and suspended license. Crazy story jox... Sad to hear it. It makes me reflect on the multiple times that I should have been arrested for the same shit. I wish you the best man... Lesson learned.
- In Sweden, driving with a blood-alcohol level of .02 is illegal.
In the U.S., the blood-alcohol limits are four to five times higher.
In about half of the states, driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08

Hopefully, this teaches everyone here a lesson. One stupid night can cause a lot of trouble and pain.... I mean it.

yeh, if you happened to be just parking the car whilst blotto, and failed to notice my little girl run daftly into the road in front of you (something that being 6 can make you do), and you failed to react in time, due to said intoxication and poor parking planning, I'd cut your face off and sew it onto your ass..., and I know you'd probably agree with me.
Fully empathise with being away from the family, and glad noone got hurt, but isn't 0.14 seven times the limit of 0.02 ?- of course you can drive legally iin the UK at 4 times that limit..ribit
- I have the same viewpoint. But I can tell that jox feels pretty bad...Jaline
- yeh it's a real harsh thing to happen, best wishes, jox********
- If, if, if...
None of that happened!AndyRoss - What if he was completely sober, and your cut his face off. You'd be wrong!! But you didn't, so it's OK.AndyRoss
