Yeah dude. No offense but that's not exactly a site that wins more gigs. Maybe more Drip Drop companies, or whatever the fuck that is type gigs, but not higher end stuff. Bust out the spec work, mate.

this is the most rediculous premise i have read in a while.
geralddean,
please go the the client and say they ripped your previous work on their redesign and demand compensation...
let us know how that works out for ya.. also, wear a helmet at all times

Wow, did you like just stumble into this career called 'design'?
You work, they pay, they own your work, they can do whatever the hell they want to it, you can't do anything about it except bitch and moan.

It just comes with the territory, like others have said they have the right to redesign their site and they don't really need to consult you on it. Don't take it personal, maybe next time be more proactive in suggesting a redesign to the client so they won't look else where for design services. Maybe they just didn't know they could come back to you for a redesign.

Actually the new version looks much improved, sour grapes maybe?

is this how the web industry works? a design makes a design and a few years later the clients re-make the site, so the designer takes that work out their portfolio?!?!!? that makes no sense.
why would you take out the work you did?? if you did it be proud of it. i dont understand that logic. i have designs in my portfolio from work i did over 10 years ago and i still get great compliments from it.
i understand revising your portfolio to adjust the work to the visual of the new potiential clients but to take out your work as soon as the clients change tham is a mystery to me.
can someone explain this?
- No explanation needed, you are correct. If it's good work, it's good work no matter how old.czawada
- keep old 'worthy' work in your portfolio - if it's no longer online - just screenshot what 'you' did********

this is your explanation?

"my version of the site has been up for at least 3 years."
3 years is a long time. Too bad you didn't had a good relationship with the client, so you would had got the re-design project, other then that. there noting but keep working.

Must have been his first web site or freelance gig. He must feel like he sent a conservative daughter off to college and she came back at Christmas with a pierced clit and a mohawk.
