Hey everyone,
I'm seriously thinking about getting a used Jaguar. Anyone here ever own one? Anything I should be aware of or look for? X type or S type? Any years to avoid?

That new Jag is really sad. Its a Dale Winton Express. A Ford Mondeo dressed up as a Hyundai Coupé. What a shitty car. I'm with NinjaSavant, a proper Jag, a four litre XJR Sport is the Dojer's Balojers, a proper guvmobile... but, take my word for it Ninjasavant DO NOT BUY A SECOND HAND JAG. I love em, but wouldn't ever go near one. Massively unreliable and prone to huge amounts of very expensive repair, replacement and just plain maintenance. They are notorius money pits. Just look, and daydream, and leave well alone.

My father is a car saleman, and I even spent some time as a salesman myself. When i was a kid he sold Jaguars at Crown Jaguar and Ferrari in St. Petersburg, Florida. 80's Jags...so sweet, so "80's" but they broke down all the time. But they are still really beautiful cars for luxury.
Since Ford bought them, they don't seem to have as many power train issues as they have transmission and "annoyance" problems, e.g. Handle falling off. Then the handle casts 100 bucks for replacement, etc. But then again they're sweet looking rides.

I like the new XKR. It's lacking character, for sure, but still nice looking.
I almost bought an XJR many years ago, but decided it wasn't worth the potential headache.

There seems to be a lot of anti jag sentiment going on here. I must do more research.

I know absolutely nothing about cars, but I can say that on the aesthetic front, the older models are in my opinion amongst the most beautiful automobiles ever made

Badly made, I would however buy a new one if I was rich but if I was rich I'd have enough money to own an aston martin........

It seems that Consumer Reports agrees with all of you :(
- VW is normally on the bottom of those lists too. http://www.theautoch…joyride

Aston Martins are good... in the words of Ferrari's CEO: "I love my Aston Martin– it always starts."
