Just say that due to the current economic climate you can no longer afford to keep him on. Reassure him he's still a good designer (if he is) but because he's the newest to the team he's also unluckily the 1st to feel the effects of the pinch. Tell him to keep in touch (if he's any good as good designers are hard to find).
Don't lie to him else you might get his mate come on here slagging your company off...

How long has he been on staff? Did you totally screw him cause he left another job for this one like a week ago?
Economic reasons are excuse enough, just be honest. Don't tell him it's his work for economic reasons, that's completely messed up.

so if he has been with you 6 months, doesnt he get some kinda redundancy money?
or unfair dismissal? (no written warnings, nor period to find another job?)because he could use the info you have posted here as evidence?

he's a cunt that needs to get laid, ignore him.
- trooper0
do that thing where you wait for him to come in and pretend you dont know him (taken from friends) lol!

"I don't want to tell him its for financial reasons though. Much rather put the blame on his quality of work."
Don't you feel a sense of responsibility to be honest and respectful to people you employ?

I dont know why you need to post this kind of stuff here, but if it helps
We always find it's better to fire people on a
Friday. It's statistically shown that there's less chance of an
incident if we do it at the end of the week.

How could you fire me Anthony? You said you loved my work, I always deliver. And what sort of pussy needs to come on Newstoday to figure out how to fire someone??? They should fire you Anthony! I could do your job twice as well and in half the time.
- ********0
Don't blame his work, if it is financial reasons he will much more understand that.

You: KNOCK KNOCK.
JNR: Uh ... who's there?
You: YOU'RE FIRED! GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY FACE!! AHHHHH! GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT!!!! YOU'RE FIRED!!!! YOU'RE FUCKING FIRED!!!!!!!- That is how I would handle firing people. HR gets a good kick out of it, but never lets me play the axe man cometh.********
