I picked up a Sharp LCD the other day. I have noticed it makes some soft but high-pitched humming sounds. Do LCD's generally make a bit of noise? Or should I expect it to be next to silent? Does your TV buzz?

many times, this is due to an not-constant voltage (power) source feeding the tv.
- This man is 100% correct. Usually its just your power being delivered incorrectly to the TV. Go buy a Monster PowerCenter and see if you still hear it. You should have one anyway.TheTofuFactory

Hmm - I have purchased a power supply that is supposed to filter the power so I have "Clean Electricty".

- There may be a break in period. You should see if you leave it on for long enough (let it warm up for an hour / 2 hours and see if it continues).TheTofuFactory

I've had that on a LCD monitor due to a faulty power supply... probably wise to exchange it before smoke appears.

Got rid my new 47" LCD after one week got a 50" Plasma. Much better color quality and picture, cost less, larger picture and generally outrank every LCD hands down in every review that I read. Only drawback is that they are about 20% heavier in weight... And no more noise...

LCD tv's can last up to 15 years, plasmas last about 3 not to mention the image burn from stock tickers, video games and scolling news.
and no it shouldn't buzz
