I started with this company as a junior designer a few years ago. Came along to the interview printed portfolio in hand and all.
These days I think I've crossed over into the realm of "mid-weight" designer and I'm ready to move on, but haven’t updated my portfolio.
The problem is, having not had to prepare for an interview for so long, I'm curious as to whether or not I need a printed folio at all.
Is an online portfolio with a list of work and clients sufficient even to showcase your print work?
Do I just upload it all to my site and flick through it on a laptop in the interview?
I'm guessing that's the way to do it, but considering how competitive it is these days, I want to be sure.

All depends on what kind of work you do. If you mostly do interactive stuff you obviously don't need a physical portfolio.

Certain studios like to see printed portfolios and others don't need them. Some of them get all hot over hand bound/produced portfolios. Others don't care.
I would say find the ones you want to work for, call them and ask what they like.

If you're print based they want to see it, not on a screen.
If you're screen based they want to see it, not on a print out.
If you're a combination, you'll need to show both.

I think that either way having a printed and bound version of your portfolio just looks more impressive. The extra effort I think speaks for your work effort and could be the determining factor in selecting you over someone else.

Looks like I'll need both.
Thanks for the feedback. Not Fouty. Was Superculture. Until QBN stopped letting me log in. When I go to the "reset password" link in my email, it brings up a 404 page. FAIL!
Oh, and my site works http://www.superculture.com.au/
