- you know about The Studio, right? It was a very small world in the 70s and everyone went through that apartment.MrAbominable
- JJ's painted work was always Frazetta-lite. The drawings were for me where he excelled. 'I'm Age' and the other one.MrAbominable
- I eventually got the Studio book, love it.PhanLo
- ^Kent Williams, John J Muth, and George Pratt are all the immediate generation idolizing Jones. You prolly know them all but... chatting.MrAbominable
- immediate "following"MrAbominable
- @MrAbominable really love George Pratt's work, I listened to a really good podcast with him a while back. Will look it outPhanLo
- It's on here https://archive.org/… couldn't find a direct link. those guys loved the Studio era...PhanLo
- ...learned so much from those interviews about artists I might never have known. Sergio Toppi, Alberto Breccia, José Muñoz so many good artistsPhanLo
- thanks for the link. will check. Williams/Muth/Pratt were all friends of Jones. Pratt is an odder duck and it took him longer to find success. I'm glad heMrAbominable
- did, though. They all shared the same Rep, who some of my classmates at ACCD went to work with. Eventually Dave McKean and Greg Spalenka sort of joined theMrAbominable
- same circle, but as a sort of 3rd generation. Not much of a lineage to JJ or PreRaphaelites at that point.MrAbominable

- I love this style. I read about 12 Isasc Asimov novels and Niven and Arthur C. Clarke in the late 80s/early 90s and they had this look.CyBrainX

Anyone here looking to pickup some freelance?
Need someone who can crank out some Nick Slater-ish, monoline illustrations on some potentially obscure, tech-centric topics to be used online in marquee images, social, ads etc.
Holler if you're interested or know someone who might fit the bill.

Was ot at the pub with my mate Rob tonight, he used to run a record label / arts project I was involved in, but he did a lot of decent events before sacking it all off for a bit.
We were reconnecting again as he's moved up here from London and got onto the subject of Syd Mead and how good his use of colour was, style and content etc and how it had influenced us both over the years.
He'd got Syd Mead to do some artwork for his label and I still have some really nice tshirts he designed, but he'd forgot to say about the interview he did with him, it's on his site if you are interested:
https://robswain.substack.com/p/…
Also check out Rob's Design work too: https://www.robswain.com
-- He'd also had a long and drawn out email interaction with Phase 2 for years, where Phase would send essay long responses that sounded hilarious.PhanLo
- very cool. Mead was the man.dopepope
- He really designed the future, well at least the cinematic one anyway. One thing I liked about his designs was it looked like the people were having fun.PhanLo
