hey I am updating my portfolio and gearing up for a massive job search...
I was only at my last job for 6 months. I designed wedding invitations and greeting cards.
The owner was my "client" and I was set loose to conceptualize cards and mock them up. Total freedom. No guidance.
The AD then took the mock ups to the "client" and he passed his verdict. If he liked it we produced it. If not...the trash. His verdict was FINAL! muah hah ha haaaa!
Reason I am not there is most of mine went in the trash.
They are all really good cards/invitations though. (the guy was stuck in the 80's as far as aesthetic goes.)
Should I put the mock ups in my portfolio?
The cards that made the cut won't be produced until this summer anyway, so what do I show?sorry for the long post.

are we talking online portfolio?
I think you should put the best of them in your portfolio – but only if it something you are proud of.

Online and physical portfolio. Well I am really proud of a couple of them ( and they are not the ones to be produced anyway).
Just wondering how an Art Director is going to feel about the situation...

yeah, why not? if you like them and they look good...
It's still work in the end.

put the work you have done, regardless of 'production' that you are proud of, and know is solid design artifacts of your ability(s).
an AD wants to see your work, the breathe of style overall, and any sort of development or progress in a portfolio, especially if you have a relatively young one.
hope that helps.

Depends, some companies are a bit funny about including work you've done while in their employ. Some are cool with it.
I guess it's probably best to ask permission to show it in your folio ideally but if not, it might be best to show off some snippets of work you know is ok to show then do what I do and put the rest in a password protected page/section on your site and advise potential employers that you have more work and let them know the login details when you apply or speak with them.
It's not ideal but it is a way to avoid complications.

I would put the ones you like in whether they were produced or not. I also looked at your site and a lot of your work says concept, i would just get rid of that and put what it is. Even if it is not real, you can print a mock-up to show in your real portfolio. There is some good work in there.

Of course you can / should put them in a portfolio, online or physical.
They are you work. People always put concepts, pitches, versions of designs that aren't produced. You are showing your ability and skill, not a clients taste or final project direction.
If your proud of them, and they are you work, then show them off.

unless of course they contained unpurchased photography from getty or the like

Thanks guys, yeah it's a young portfolio with a lot of student work still... this was my first creative job (I was prepress for 1.5 years right out of college)
Just itching to get rid of the student portfolio feel...
