Good luck finding a collections agency that will chase up $300.
I still reckon the legal threat and filing a small claim is the best bet if it's all down in the contract.

-"How does libel relate to putting up a bad review about an experience with a company you hired for instance? Could you potentially get in trouble for that?"
No, not if you have ALL the facts are stated, air tight and without interpretation. But they could say you damaged them and that the comments were incorrect just by saying that they didn't pay because you didn't do something exactly as expected or a payment deadline was not clear, etc. etc.
So if all the facts are straight, you would be fine, but if not, in the legal world, truth really belongs to the best lawyer. But again, would either side go through any litigation for $300??
As I said before, put a lien on their business for the amount. Liens are surprisingly easy to do and can cause really annoyances to them. Listen, if your contractor can put a lien on your home because you didn't pay your reno bill, or your mechanic can put one on your car for not paying the mechanic bills or you can even put one on your neighbor for not paying their half of a fence mutually built on a property line, you can lien these guys I am sure.

As nobody reads contracts and/or contracts are basically worthless when you're trying to collect on a couple of hundred bucks, I think a line in all future contracts saying 'If the Client doesn't not do X in the agreed upon time frame, the Company retains the right to replace all web content with photoshopped nudes of the Client's daughter and/or animated gifs of the Client being sodomized by the the Client's oldest living male relative or a reasonable approximation thereof.'
You know...to keep from being sued for libel...lost income...general damages...etc.

it was very frustrating but at the end there was light...

We think it'd be fun to forward all our junk mail to the (ex)client and sign them up for all types of random newsletters and shit you find on the web—just so they're constantly harassed in one form or another.
That sounds like $300 worth of satisfaction to us.

as much as I would like that, I do actually believe in karma, I wish them the best of luck in life, I won't be working for them anymore. That's all I wanted, a principle thing.
They payed what they owed, I have no reason to do anything bad to them. :)
Thanks for the kind offer though!

Well thats why I dont work without a pre-payment of a fee. Normally is 40% to start really working on the project.
- That's exactly what I do. It's its own insurance.harlequino

Here's an idea for all you Newstodayers, sorry QBN'ers. Design a site that's purpose is to promote current disputes. Basically an authority on non-paying companies that web designers/freelancers etc can check as a database before committing to any work. The site would be legit and offer legal advice etc etc. If it grew in stature and had respectability it would serve as a warning to non-payers. Just sounding off here...
And well done Meeklo.
- good idea. but i am afraid not many designers dare to submit? and anonymously would be impossible?********
