Does anyone know [from past experience] if Apple intend to release a quicker MBP in the coming months/this time of year, or should I just buy now?
- modern0
They didn't release it with the powermacs last week or at macworld, wont be a likely upgrade till july.
May as well buy it now

I'm holding out for a Feb update, i really want a 17" MBP for more real estate, but i also want it to have a 45nm chip, cool runnings.

So do they normally update in Feb then?

45nm = 45 nanometre process to make chips, current MBP's run on 65nm. It should mean that the chips use a lot less power and produce less heat. There is also a boost to processing power if i remember rightly.
You can read about it here http://www.intel.com/technology/…Only reason I say Feb is because there wasn’t a late 2007 update like there was in 2006, I expected a processor update at Macworld but it didn’t come. I really hope we don’t have to wait till July+ for the Montevina update!

It does llok like te 45nm chip will not be out till June:

" I think it'll be a few months before they introduce re-designed books with multi-touch trackpad "
All macbooks have multitouch trackpads. The new functionality that came in Air is just a software feature and is likely to come to other models soon, just like it was with MB and MBPro's.

there will be a new one in six months dancer bet on that wait till june / july then buy one :D, I bought mine about about four months ago so I'm sure a new model will be coming soon.

52nm chip from io24 will work as a straight replacement!

I wouldn't get too excited about getting the new multi touch features on your existing Macbook. When Apple released it's current, two finger form, it was actually possible to be done on older ibooks and powerbooks with a bit of 3rd party software but Apple never made an official update to do it.
I imagine the next update will be another speedbump, slightly bigger trackpad with a thinner button and multitouch...
