Some of you on here may have seen this already (sorry if you have), if you haven't its an awesome concept. Check it out.
http://www.artlebedev.com/everyt…What do you reckon? Will it be usable or just a good looking gadget?

At what point does it stop being a keyboard and start being a tablet pc or a wacom type tablet?

You know what the best keyboard is? Voice recognition software.

http://www.5min.com/Video/Get-to… one is better, standard keys, all with the ability to display any icon, and it allows multiple layouts and customiztions to each program....

epigraph, that link is broken, but from what your saying it sounds like your talking about the optimus maximus

made by the same guys.
they have sold out of their first batch which is shipping any time soon.
waaaaayyy too pricey though.

It's an interesting concept and everything, but I think I'd prefer the tactility of having pressed a button, myself. Although it's cool that you can re-map to whatever configuration you want, I think that (with my typing skills, at least) this leaves too much room for error. I can be very picky about my keyboards though - they need to 'feel right'. Any word on expected price for this? I'd love to have the Maximus, but as Samush said it's far too expensive at the moment.

yeah the maximus.... it would be cool to have a photoshop layout with each tool on it's own key.... commonly used menu items, and filters too.
ill try link again http://www.5min.com/Video/Get-to…

There are 3 versions of maximus, they are essentially the same but come with different amounts of OLED keys. the idea is that if you're feeling particularly wealthy, maybe on pay-day, you can order extra OLED keys and just swap them with the normal ones.
would make for some excellent office pranks, when you swap colleagues keys around and change their keyboard configuration, so that when they start typing all the keys disappear except for A, F, I, and L.

I agree with Jaline... it could have cool uses if you break out of keyboard land.

The only problem I see with the tactus is that, How do you know if your fingers are in the right position? those little lines on the j and f, or d and k... not there. so typing on a completely flat surface, may not be as productive. still.. looks cool.

Art Lebedev has a really good Live Journal blog - nice stuff if you're into interaction design:

I thought something up like this a couple months ago but this is much cooler.

my idea was more designer oriented. You could have the option to call up the glyphs associated with the font you are using on the touch keyboard. Or even change the font on your keyboard to the one you were using in your design.
- i guess that would be do-able with either of the keyboards mentioned.Samush
- yes - make the software and then a deal with artlebedev.invisiblechamber
