"Injuries to officers struggling with offenders have decreased considerably since the department started using Tasers in 2001."
The questions is... are a few deaths worth a few less injuries?

Great quote from that story:
"We believe that they should be used as an alternative to lethal force," said Dori Dinsmore, the group's Midwest director, "not as a tool to ensure routine compliance."

If you have an unarmed person, weapons shouldn't be used. that seems like pig 101 to me.
- Agreed. That's what the night sticks are for. Unarmed = Nightstick, Non-Gun = Tazer, Gun = Gun/TazerJKilla77

minnesota REPRASENT!

Obviously if a guy is wielding a knife or something, tazer his ass but a guy who was just in a car accident that is just shitty police work.

I have a question. Can you buy tasers from anywhere and get them in your country? Is it illegal in some countries to buy from the outside or to even own one at all? What about Canada?
I am not planning it...but I was wondering about the laws...

I want one... I built one of those DIY ones with the disposable camera, but I want a better one. That way when I get tase 'em back...

Tim Burke who was the Alina Paramedics representative was my tennis coach for 8 years.

What's wrong with a good old fashioned kick in the plums? Surely more cost effective and less lethal than a taser.
A bar down the road from me has the dubious accolade of being the first place in the UK where a taser was used by police. Apparently some dude fucked up four coppers and two bouncers before they gave in and zapped the bastard.

"In the United States, more than 290 people have died since June 2001 after being struck by police Tasers, according to the human rights group Amnesty International. It said in October that only 25 of the 290 were armed, and none had firearms."
More proof of why the US is a police-state with little respect for human life.
- In Canada it's bad too, but not as bad. Cops tend to use tasers more than guns.Jaline

I grew up with Mark as a kid. Small and scrawny, he was also prone to be on the troublesome side (not like I objected). He was a couple of years younger than me. His dad was a State Representative. We'll have to see where this goes.
Are tasers safer than clubs or guns? yes there are less fatalies. But still....
- Serious? I'd really like to hear their definition of "being uncooperative"stoplying

the most recent:
A Taser fired at a freeway motorist didn’t work the first two times and had to be used a third time. Mark Backlund, 29, died later that night due to mixed drug use, the autopsy showed.
