What are some interesting and purposeful things you do at your agency to keep people motivated and/or expand the company's profile? I'm talking bigger things like side projects, events, talks etc. and smaller things like videogames and book racks.

To spice things up I like to play "grab ass" with the office girls, that always quick to get people attitudes to change.

I used to run a design studio for a big (non-design) company. I used to offer them the chance to go on a research trip to NY, Tokyo, around Europe becuase the company used to do them very regularly.
Trouble was, for different reasons nobody ever got to go on those trips! That wasn't intentional mind you. They'd always get cancelled, or something would need to be done urgently, and then I'd have to find a way to DOUBLE incentivise a completely demoralised staff member who had had the dream trip to Tokyo cancelled.
I learned at that point that the only way to incentivise is by indirect, general joi de vivre... make it a good place to work, and make yourself the kind of person who your team want to do right by. And stop rubbing your erection up the back of their heads when they're sat at their desks working. Espeically if you have a hair trigger.

I give everyone there own big foam finger that says, "#1!"
That--and a steady supply of crystal meth--keeps things my workforce dedicated and energetic.

beers on friday

YEah, beers are a stop gap...
Best way to keep up studio morale is to promise things and see them through. Be realistic about what you can offer because I'd rather not be offered anything than be offered something and not have it delivered.
Books, fonts = good. Magazine subscriptions, gallery afternoons, and a fucking birthday budget!

we tend to work sometimes.... anybody else has that problem?

Love the beer Idea. Not so sure about gay chickens running around tho

not really much goes on here at the moment, but I'm working on them to introduce "Flick Fridays" where the last friday of the month, at 2pm we gather to watch a movie in one of the meeting rooms.
our boss will randomly take us out to lunch to a nice place in appreciation of our hard work.
after a launch of a project, we'll sometimes get a day or two off to 'recover'.
We're up on the 22nd floor so sometimes to boost morale we throw water balloons out the window at the people down below on Madison street but we had to put a stop to it cause last time I got carried away and threw a large paper weight out the window and too many people died.
