One thing on top of the whole cloverfield thing was the character Hud. I believe it's a slight reference to :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057…
...a reckless cowboy combined with a dim frat boy...who does that remind you of?- I assumed it to be a reference to a heads up display (HUD) since, well, that was essentially his role.welded
- Oh yeah that too! Good Eye, Good Eye!woodyBatts

Subtext: Big Giant Statement on 9/11, Oil Dependency & Environmental Degradation (when you take into account all the viral web background info + the movie itself).
- 100% correct!grafiktees
- Yeah, I figured...with it being about an attack on NY and everything.Jaline
- Wait, I don't get the reference to the oil dependency..Combat
- The monster ran on internal combustion engines.welded
- wow - now i want to watch it, too.invisiblechamber

movie watching tip i found out after i saw it: watch closely when they are at coney island. in the background you see something fall into the water. so that suggests the monster evolved from an alien. also at the end if you stay past the credits, you hear quietly "it's still alive"

Hey, is this thread about margarine?

Just saw it. I liked it. I thought the camera work would make me sick (and it did for the first few minutes), but they seemed to do a good job in the long run... I felt fine.

I will just say...I hate shaky cameras. I mean, I can live with it (because we have no choice if we want to get throw the film, of course), but I don't prefer it.
- jfletcher0
yeah, like I said, the first 3-5 minutes I was thinking "shit, this is aoging to suck"... but then after about 10-15 minutes it's fine. Mostly once the action hits you don't notice it like you did during the intro.

It could be interesting if they filmed it like a real movie. Like the same events from the army/goverment POV... like Independance day.
Not sure I've seen someone do that same movie from different persepctives. That could be cool.

saw it yesterday, it was awesome experience!

Saw it on Saturday and my girlfriend did not like it, felt nauseous and we left the cinema. There was a guy holding his head on the stairs outside the screen and a phenomenal smell of sick, poor guy couldn't even make to to the toilet.
So in conclusion, good film though my girlfriend would beg to differ.

Any film that induces vomiting within the population is a good time in my book.
- Sidenote: It is my goal in life to create a film that induces barfing, pissing, ad shitting. At the same time.harlequino
- There were warnings up in the cinema. That would not/did not stop me from going to see it, in fact I think it would spur me on.ian
- My humble marketing copy:
"YOU WILL FUCKING VOMIT!!"
Watch 'em buy tickets. :Dharlequino - Wasn't that the tag line to 'Hostel'?
But if not, will you take a deposit for my ticket?ian - hahaharlequino
