Vague,
Would mind giving us some background info as to why you care about this so much? You have now posted a handful of "rants" regarding this type of thing without much background as to why you find it so distasteful. I don't think any of us claim Design to be a utopian profession.

Might I ask how you think design should look?
I really wasn't aware that there's only one way we should be doing it.

Actually - in my op - this is much more interesting than the other spiro guy you posted. It's another league with different aims. You seem to be undergoing an abduction period, mr. vague. That is good, and I like it that you bring this matters up. But just don't miss what is essential in graphical work experience and evolution trying to understand why everybody has a job or is able to survive. You can't tell from a site if people survive or not. Most of top-notch ground-breaking designers are not that much successful (those who really bring any change or really have a novelty, not those who play along with art directors and ad companies - in fact, advertising kills design). Having a job and making money is a down-grader. Dier5 is pure graf experience and if they hap to make a buck out of it that cannot be but fantastic. I don't think they survive solely from reckless experience though. Maybe their rich and do not even bother with that problem.

This whole concept of "good" is rather nebulous. For instance, I hear that in the late 1800s, fat chicks were considered hot.
- you do have a good point. which makes it hopeless. either there's a standard or not. The question is who is making it.********

- I see your point. But it doesn't resolves anything. Maybe there's nothing to resolve.********

I don't see why we're taking all this time to rip on people...

I am vaguely reminded of qruise as well.

a good point should be worth for itself - no matter who is making it - and should not be refuted just by ad hominem argument. unless you can tell there's really bad intentions of course (which are commonly most obvious and do not match this case). This is an open forum (or a café...) and anonymous/alias comments are allowed as a rule so the point is to refute or acknowledge the post and the idea and not the person. That "troll" concept is just unwillingness to listen and an easy thumb-of-rule to ignore unwanted criticism. Some trolls may be trolls just picking a fight, but some apparent trolls are not trolls at all.
Vague doesn't sound like a trollish-troll to me. I have questioned myself often about many of the same questions he or she brings up.

My point is, just because you don't like or even despise a person's idea (that happens to me a lot, like anybody else) you cannot or should not go around calling them trolls just from what you suspect what their peevish ramblings or intention might be. That is intellectual as feebleness (defined as the opposite of good spirited discussion). Making a strong attack -given that it is made in respectful manner- on a given piece of artwork be it a drawing, a print, a story or a music piece is a sound intellectual tradition that can only push us forward and it's not a crime. An attack on a piece of work is not an attack on the person who made it, but just on the piece that person has made.
- "attack" defined as a positive clash of different arguments.********
- hey what i've said doesn't apply for those who believe in art as a lifestyle or an expression. that's different.********

nobody here cares what you have to say about other peoples work vague. maybe if you showed some of your own, better work, people would listen. until then you are in no position to talk.
