montezuma and monteverde. such an easy country to visit.
san jose is kind of dirty and not that cool.
- capn_ron0
Screw it. Rent a rav 4 and travel the whole freaking country. From Tamarindo down to Pavones, then across to the east coast. It is all beautiful. Do you surf?
- lumedia0
thanks chew,
montezuma looks pretty good

750 a week for this place. not to bad

san jose sucks. get out of there as soon as possible. pavones is cool, you can't go wrong with really any place on the pacific side.

I was cosidering renting a camper van and traveling the whole time, but that would be a totally different trip and I need relaxation. Plus I cant find any camper rentals down there...

there are some nice places in the north on the pacific side that you can find to relax. just south of tamarindo are so out of the way places on the beach that are really chill and serve ice cold Imperials and Ron y Colas. When you get there you need to have an ice cream called a Treet! So good, i think i had one every day. You'll find them at the liquor stores.

hit the carribean coast. it's a trek accross the country but it's unforgettable. cahuita is a nice spot to chill, or puerto viejo for black sand on the beach and local surfing.
pacific coast is pretty touristy.

my wife and I honeymooned here: http://www.hotelpuntaislita.com/…
Good times. Don't stay more than 5 days though... start to feel to much like a resort.

I thought everyone went to costa rica to participate in the hooker trade down there. seriously, that's the only thing I hear from people that go there.

I'm actually headed down there around then. I love it. Go the the pacific side, much nicer, fewer problems.

You have to leave San Jose and go to the beach, the Pacific coast is nicer. Get a car can drive, it is beautiful there.

im going there mid march. we're planning on staying at a couple different areas: arenal, monteverde, tamarindo...
any advice on transportation? some of my friends say rent a car while others say take public transportation because roads are terrible and its dangerous to drive at night..
- capn_ron0
Take public transportation from San Jose to your coastal destination, then if you want to explore, rent a car and cruise. Don't drive at night either. Freaking crazy drivers down there.

tamarindo. we took a freaking taxi there, like 5 hours, it cost $70.
we cruised down the coast to mal paiis it was sweet. had some fishermen take us across in their little boat to puntarenas, that was cool. rented a car there and cruised around, volcano, etc. fun. hung out in san jose. then went home. that was a good itinerary.

The place we were staying sent a driver. The guy did something like, 70 kph along winding roads the whole way there. You are hitting switch backs in a car up a mountain that is so steep that the grazing cows look like they are standing on each other.
On the way back to the airport we came to a road block some local police had set up. No joke, they were in lawn chairs drinking beer. It was 4 in the morning and it seemed like they were just fucking with people. Amazing.

I'll be there in June
