isn't the lack of government for 154 days the proof that a country doesn't really need one?
Not full-time at least.

UK
Don't they lack constitution or something?

// we have total anarchy right now! looting, mudering, brussels is burning, antwerp is in ruins...//
funny thing is we still have governments, the flemish and the one from wallonie, so they do the urgent matters...for the rest its really becoming a farce this government forming, its all the fault of a minority of radical fools...

of course the "structures" must be there... but it's still a funny experiment.
as to the UK.. yeah. It's admirable how it holds together without a bill.

And just to think they brainwashed everyone to think Europe needs a government. Or a constitution (or treaty wtf)
Government's duties can be brought down to 2 words imo:

I've never really understood the need for a specific constitution.
Seems to make the political environment more divisive, if gun law and freedom of speech in America are anything to go by.

yeah but you're all a bunch of capitalist pig-dogs with a loose sense of reality. wibble.
- kelpie0
glad you agree.

(Nov 12 07, 07:17)well you would probably need one if you became a republic - it's just an overall written foundation everybody decides to abide for, telling what are the duties/rights of a person inside a state. It usually happens after a secession or independance when everybody's killing each other.

Hmm. Fair point. Makes sense.
Politically, and in many other ways, I am an absolute ignoramus.
A constitution shouldn't be more than a single side of A4 though.

I offer no definition

a static constitution only keeps us mentally in the past. regressive.
governments do more harm than good.
like designers.

(Nov 12 07, 10:36)Sorry. I was just trying to be funny - or stupid.
To be honest I never gave it much thought, but after thinking a wee bit about it I have to agree with you.
Constitutions (long inextricable boring pieces of paperwork) become obsolete in a few years. Unless they're kept to a minimum (like detritus said: no more than a A4) they tend to freeze rights, duties and institutions more than preserve them in a lively manner. That's true.
it's probably like smoking or not:
the thought of quitting doesn't make any sense to you - you know that it is killing you, but you can't picture your life without it - whereas if you don't smoke you can't figure out what drives so many people into some expensive absolute nonsense.
