Sasha and Digweed make me wanna puke.
The true pioneers are people like Derrick May, Carl Craig, etc., who basically invented the whole techno thing back in the mid to late 80s.
Watch and learn:

some vocal trance 2006-07 list i made today

wow. hate to prove you wrong ... but get your shit straight.
first off ... there were three ...
Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May,. You are also referring to a small subculture, the Detroit Techno Movement.
EDM existed long before that.
Sasha and Digweed are in an elite class of their own and still dominate "dance" music today.
I speak in reference to the world, not only USA.
Check DJ MAG 100.

sorry to pee in your noodles, dibec, but sash and diggers just aren't the pioneers I think you seem to think they are.
To cast your mind back, there was a time in 92 when a mix tape called 'the sasha tape' made its way around the underground, it had on the other side of it the set by one Laurent Garnier, who was the bigger name and who actually played the better set. Sasha mixed Whitney Houston over the top of another record and was suddenly the blue-eyed boy at the right time in the right place, but was by no means a pioneer of that sound. John Digweed was similarly made famous by his selection by Sasha, and whilst both are competent and talented DJs, the rest of the dance music world really doesnt owe their existence to either of them.
May, Saunderson, Atkins and also Nitzer Ebb, Larry Heard and numerous numerous others from many previosly seperate 'genres' of music back in the day are really the fathers of modern techno.
And I use the term techno, as it's all techno. House is techno, drum and bass, jump step up -whatever the fuck they're calling it now, all follow rules created by techno artists 10, 20, years ago. Must mention Andrew Weatherall in passing.
If you want to know where dance music is, and where it's going, watch this man he's always on the money..

Appreciate the responses, I knew nt wouldn't fail.
I'm looking for more stuff ala doesnotexist's post; Justice, Junior Senior, and the like.
Definitely NOT into drum n' bass or techno.

One of the best places to find music like Justice and other electro type stuff are the music blogs.

mikotondria2 ... I tip my hat to you. You know your stuff.
I guess I am fighting two worlds ... "techno" the all encompassing and "dance" the softer side of techno. I guess once we get our definitions right, we could all agree.
PLUR. =P

oh sure yes, nice one - didnt mean to direct any hubris in your direction :D
I mean, irish folk music is dance music, and were it not for that being exported to the US on the mayflower et al, and mixing with the poly-rhythms of central africa (on ships unnamed), we wouldnt have had rock and roll, and no techno. It's all part of the same story.
I for one am still very much in the traditional techno tip. I spend too long in cubase pounding my head with self-made rackets such as:

Yeah I mean, if you go back and listen to Kraftwerk, they were making stuff that sounds very much like techno back in the 70s. But I stand by what I said - it was Derrick May and co in Detroit that laid the foundation for the modern sound. They really kicked off the whole movement that was repurposed by Europeans artists into hardcore (which later evolved in D n' B), trance (a.k.a. your Sasha and Digweeed) and more direct descendents like Tresor style techno and minimal.

yeh, I would nod my head to that.
We had Derrick May play at one of our parties back in about 95.
All the scenester shitteratis from our local town stood around stroking their chins as he badly mixed one limp house record after another, it was well disappointing to listen to, but great to honor the guy by having him play for his not-entirely-unreasonable fee.
Best DJ we ever had - Andrew Weatherall playing hard techno, god my teeth are still loose.
- ukit0
Yeah I've seen him a couple times, he's actually a pretty good DJ but has sat on his laurels creativity wise for twenty years not releasing any music, kind of sad. I'm with you on Weatherall. I remember smoking up to Sabres of Paradise with my friends when I was 16 lol. Laurent Garnier is probably my favorite DJ for sheer skill and musical knowledge though.

30+ responses and no one's mentioned Diplo.
He's got a podcast in iTunes titled "Mad Decent Radio". It's all over the place. I just downloaded one of the podcasts the other day and it was all Kuduru soundsystem type stuff (Angolan dance music) and another with Israeli type dance music. It's an awesome sound.
Check Maison Records for more stuff from the likes of Justice (actually Justice is on Ed Banger). But Maison put out a really good sampler mixset not too long ago.
And for all your dubstep needs, do a search on myspace for Shift Dubstep. Seattle, holdin' it down!

How could I forget Gunther
- ukit0
I still have to check out that Dubstep night, Gilt001. Also I keep seeing flyers for some night called Sing Sing which brings in people like Low Budget and Sinden, but I keep forgetting to go.
- Gilt0010
Ooh, i went to Sing Sing when The Juan Maclean did a DJ set. Holy crap, that dude tore shit up. Pretty Titty and the other guy he always tag teams with were throwin' down some heat too.
The Shift Dubstep nights are insane. I'm not sure about them now since they moved to Contour, but I went when a few times when it was in Fremont. Without a doubt though, you'll never see more subwoofers in one place than their nights. Insane!
- ukit0
Nice, I gotta check that out. There's a scarcity of good nights in Seattle these days...gotta go out and support the good ones.
- dibec0
I am uploading Digweed's and Sasha's EM mixes this year. Both I found very solid and both captured magical nights. Very very happy with both, I come back to them often.
Free of charge. =P

I still can't get over the Northern Exposure East Coast edition from Sasha n' Digweed.
Pure pure progressive from back in the day...
