Hey all flash ninjas - hiya!
I've posted this once before and am still doing some R&D, but hopefully someone can point me to the right direction. Is it possible for flash or some type of technology to create swf's into some kind of projector file, preferably a .exe file from a web page? Generally a client/user would interact with flash by arranging flash videos in an order they choose. When done they can click submit to turn that piece they created into a projector file to view on they're desktop and/or email to someone. I've pretty much figured out my approach for everything accept the projector section. Thanks in advance for any leads or help you guys provide. I'm thinking maybe some server side tech may be needed, but I'm just reaching out if anyone has done this sort of thing or has other ideas. Thanks again...

no. the only way you can create an exe through an swf is within adobe flash. you can't string multiple swf files together to create an exe file without the actual publshing program (flash).

LVL, thanks for the response. Would it possibly be a server side component? I'm thinking maybe when the client arranges the video objects in order, that phase would just be the front-end of showing the client how to interacting with the application, when they click submit, flash maybe sends the variables via externalInterface class to pass the variables to javascript, which is surrounded by server-side script(wrapper) and grabs those variables via dynamic javascript using the externalInterface class. Now that the server has it's varibables, it would generate these ready made video swf's, through some kind of sever component on the fly. Sorry to make it lengthy it helps to talk it through and nerd out. Anyone?

thanks guys! I'll be looking into this more.

I think this can be done.
If you set up your exe as a shell where you can load in FLVs or SWFs dynamically and use shared Objects to save video choices and sequences, then you have a decent head start.

i think so as well. I'm R&D'ing Adobe's Air, which looked promising but it looks like it doesn't support .exe, but other alternatives, such as desktop application. This might alter the scope of the project but may give a better way solution other than creating .exe on the fly. I'm not yet sold on this technology yet, but will continue to research. Thanks for believing. ;0)

Why not go the shell route and get the clients to create a playlist of XML which loads the swf files into the shell?

(Nov 4 07, 17:33)That is exactly what I was thinking of, but it won't work....
the LSOs are specific to the location and SWF that creates them = you can create them with your SWF on your webpage, but the EXE won't be able to read the LSO from the user's desktop....

what ar LSO's? and is there a component that lives on the server to generate swf on the fly when variables are passed to it via externalInterface class. Thanks for the possiblities so far...
