Hi,
I was just wondering what freelancers have been using for health insurance? My cobra ran out last month, so looking for alternatives.
best,

Freelancer's Union? Anyone use their plans?

I recommend United Dontgetsick Healthcare

yeah, I believe your best bet would be to research about personal plans. Believe it or not, sometimes you pay even less than what you would pay through your employer.

The best I could find was blue cross blue shield... but it varies from state to state.
I'd also definitely look into a health savings plan

(Oct 25 07, 08:53)Truth. Big corporate plans take into account all the fatties and old people that work with you to decide your rates. So if you are healthy, a personal plan will most likely be cheaper.

yeah - it seems there are a number of "young people" kind of plans around too - I think the coverage at Freelancer's Union is looking okay - and definitely less than cobra was.

I (+ my family) use the Freelancer's Union Health plan .. have for about 2 years ... Much better than my last employer-based plan, too.

I am keeping an eye on this thread.

I use Golden Rule as well. Even my baby has an independent plan. And I pay 3 times less compared to my wife's employer plan.

i use this in between coverage. good for 6 months at a time and runs about $55/mo.

Does dental and vision get covered by most of insurance when you get health with them?
- F_180
as has been said, bcbs or freelancers union, also check and see if amerihealth is available

Get off of cobra because you'll be paying way too much on that...or at least i was.
I bought a blue shield plan which started off at around $75/mo. The co-pays aren't the best but they're not ridiculously high and the plan covers what I need. No dental or vision though.
After a few months my rate was jacked up to $95, but I was ready for that because that's what insurance companies do because they're evil. I'll probably get a letter next month saying its going up again!
but ranting aside, just buy your own plan and you should be fine.
