Those are an absolute necessity if you're using the camera on a copy stand. A neck-saving investment, easily worth 4 times the price if you're doing that.
Can't understand why in the world you'd want one if you weren't doing copy photography, though.
Why do you ask?
Oh, and did I ever tell you that "Dancing with Mr. D" is one of my favorite Stones tracks...

i was thinking of doing more waist level shots and hate bending down everytime.
not sure if its worth it....

i have one for my 30d, great for setting the cam down low and using the wide angle, takes the guess work out of the equation

iTune it right now!
About the finders, if you want waist-level finders, you should just buy an old Rolleiflex.
Those viewfinders you are looking at will just position the camera awkwardly on your solar plexus, while you crane you neck to look through the finder.
They really are for things like copy stands, and microphotography.
I don't think they'd be good for trying out waist-level viewfinders. But, hell, you're in NY. Just go down to B&H and try one out and see what you think.

very true andy thx i will try it out.

Im not sure that you would be able to use one of those VFs at waist levwel as your eye would need to be close to the eye piece.
you would most likely need one of these if they fit your camera (I rarely shoot nikon so I dont know)

nice set up v6
hmm slappy, not sure if they make one for me cam
what you guys thoughts on battery pack?
- lvl_130
yeah, what slappy said.
is it really easy to see through that tiny thing? i've used a rolle and the eyepiece that v6 has seems tiny in comparrison.maybe not, but my eyes also kind of suck, so i might be sol

Im not a fan of the battery grip as they are make the camera heavy and bulky and I like to travel light. I get about 1200 shots out of a single battery anyhow and I carry two of them.
I did consider buying the new Canon one with the in built wifi and GPS support but not sure its worth the money. Pretty cool though having gps data automatically put into the exif and having the photos automatically uploaded onto a server or laptop.

(Oct 22 07, 18:05)Ooo i heard about that there are packs you add to your camera. some are easy to use or hard to use

gps? really? wow. didn't even know about that.
which model?
- version30
Camera support today is only at the early stages. Ricoh has developed two GPS-enabled models, the 500SE and Pro G3, both with detachable GPS modules. Nikon's new higher-end D300 and top-end D3 digital SLRs, like their predecessors, can be connected to a GPS receiver with a special cable. And Canon's new higher-end EOS 40D and top-end EOS-1Ds Mark III both have optional wireless transmitters that can be connected to a GPS receiver.

Canon WFT-E3 wireless file transmitter and Battery grip.
The GPS isnt in built it just talks with GPS units to get the current location. Just found out its for the 40D only and wont fit my 30D, so that takes care of that haha.

::listens for slappy pricing out the 40D::

Nah Nikon is good dude, its more about the photographer than the camera when your in teh digital slr range. People make good photos not cameras.
